I gave two weeks notice to my old job to start my new job, which was supposed to be this morning. I had a signed offer letter, a passed background check, a signed start date, everything was official and in writing.
This morning I showed up on time at 6 am to the office, only to be told that there was a miscommunication and my initial start has been delayed by 7 days to the 28th. The reason why is that people who were being hired alongside me were taking too long on background checks.
But then someone mentioned that maybe they over hired and might be cutting some of these people down…
I quit my old job and can't go back to it. I thought I definitely had a job to start today. I was so excited to actually move along in my career, and it feels like the rug is just being yanked out from under me.
How is it legal to tell someone to give their 2 weeks, make them sign all the paperwork, and then do this to them? Fuck.
