Nobody is required to give 1 weeks. The idea that it’s required is made up out of an assumed aid to the company.
Would you receive a two weeks notice before being fired/laid off? Absolutely not.
I recent left a company (union) told them I’d give them 2 weeks so they could find somebody to take my project over. Didn’t need to, but with 10 years with the company I wanted to give them that at least. Didn’t leave because I was wronged or anything, just the company not offering the overtime and whatnot I was looking for.
Decided after a week I was just done, it was awkward, I still went to meetings but why was I really there.
You don’t owe a previous employer anything. If you have a new job, why are you waiting to switch?
