Speaking Up for a Coworker
I just wanted to share this because worker solidarity feels good! I took a medical leave of absence from my job for two months and when I got back today, I learned that my coworker was barely supported by our supervisor and ended up taking on a lot more of my responsibilities than she should have been made to. We work in a very stressful field and she's only been working in it for less than a year, so I really do not feel okay with how our agency treated her in my absence. She's in a “lower” position than me, so I contacted HR about how she deserves to be compensated for having taken on all this extra work without the support we were told she would have. It's not a definite yes, but HR said they would “try their best to figure something out.” I really hope they…
After a series of disagreements with my manager, they informed me that they will be letting me go at the end of the month. I have a child due in two months and can't afford to not work. With the rising cost of gas, I also can't afford to drive to the city for another job. Is there any work from home options that you all would receive? I have worked for the last 6 years in retail, the majority of time being a pharmacy tech and then shift supervisor. The last few months I've been an assistant manager. The disagreements with higher management have been about corporate pressures and the amount of work being put on our already overworked staff.
I do photography and sometimes I get these leads who would ask for my service and then straight out say it's too expensive. I really try my best to put down my price but prices have climbed and when I do things such as a photo booth where I print photos, the materials themselves are pricier. There's nothing much to do. Is it my responsibility? Or are they anti work? Woman called me and asked me for a quote for 4 hours of photography plus a booth, then says it's too expensive. I'm surprised because she says she learned from me from a friend and I always do my best when it comes to quality.
I had to hound my boss to pay me
Okay, so I used to work at 7-Eleven, It was okay in the beginning, it wasn’t fun scrubbing human shit of the bathroom wall, but I needed the money so I dealt with it. That was until my boss moved me from one location to another a good half an hour away. It wasn’t to bad a drive but the main reason I had taken the job in the first place was that it was like a minute away from my house, so it was just annoying. No, the real problem with the new location was the boss and his wife. The boss was just gruff and angry football dad, but his wife HATED me for some reason. I have literally no idea why. The new location operated very differently than the one I was trained at, and the boss didn’t bother to train me much, so I wouldn’t do…
What the hell happened here
Maybe showing my age here, but this song seems very fitting for this sub https://youtu.be/qJYbFFFZwdE
Long story short a supervisor from another branch office sexually harassed me and I was leaning toward not reporting. I asked for the opinion of my team lead and supervisor who both insisted I report to HR. I wasn’t leaning towards it but they insisted it was for my protection. Later I came to hear from the number two of my supervisor that they’re using it as leverage to hold over the branch office so that my supervisor gets promoted above the branch supervisor.. Although it feels safer that my supervisor gains that authority rather than my harasser, I feel so dumb and naive having believed in their altruism. Maybe they truly intended to protect my safety but it feels like an ethical grey area and there’s a clear cutthroat culture for upward mobility.
