I’m turning down an HVAC job because I simply don’t want to put in the longer hours at a job I wouldn’t really like just for more money in the future. It pays the same I am now until I get out of an apprenticeship, but HVAC techs and installers can make loads of money as time goes on in the career. My current job treats us very well and gives a lot of benefits and I’m always out in or near nature (my true passion.) Current job is a cake walk compared to HVAC and even though it will take longer here to make the money HVAC can, I am probably choosing to stay. This job lets me slack off and be free to be more truly me. Also gives me more free time to work on side projects and gives me more opportunity to find a career I’d…
Month: March 2022
I am 21M and work with a coworker around my age I disliked ever since I started working there 3 years ago. I would meet her just once a week on our shifts but that was enough for her to piss me off multiple times. We got into so many arguments I already would’ve retired for every dollar we fought. 2 weeks ago, I heard she submitted her notice since she got a job overseas at a different corporation and initially thought to myself, “Finally!”. But after a week or so, I had the weird feeling that I was going to miss her. At her very last day we ended up speaking to each other in a nicely fashion and talked about our lives. We even had lunch together which was a first. Turns out we have more in common than we thought. Well today was my first day without…
“Your dad failed you”
I’m a IT Network Engineer, my boss, who has berated me before, made me literally have a mental breakdown at work, almost made me go into a mental hospital twice. Has the audacity to say that, trust me I’m looking for another job. But it’s really ridiculous and honestly there is nothing I can do.
Applying to my local cinema out of spite
Spent 5 dollars on a claw machine, and I didn’t get the toy. I should have known better than to waste my money when it was clear from the get-go it wouldn’t work, but I didn’t. And that’s on me…. but also, I really want the toy, so I’m applying so I can swipe it from the machine. What job position should I apply to to have the access key for the machine? Floor staff? Closing floor staff? Or is there just a specific room I have to get to to get the key. It’s regal cinemas, for anyone curious. If this sounds petty, that’s because it is. I want that venom plushie, and preferably my five dollars back.
Predatory Recruiter
Had a recruiter reach out on LinkedIn. Typical spammy type “I have a great opportunity (something I’m grossly unqualified for), you interested?” I select the ignore button since it’s not worth my time. Guy messaged me again saying if I’m not interested he would like me to help him find candidates who may be. Mind you, this company is thousands of miles away from where I work and live. I, again, ignore the message. A week later the guy calls me and leaves a grumpy voicemail about how he’d appreciate a call back and my referrals. My number is not listed on LinkedIn, so he obviously went through the trouble of finding me. Again, I ignored him. THEN, a week later my desk phone rings. I didn’t pick up in time and got a voicemail. Nobody calls our landlines since covid. Checked the voicemail. IT WAS THE RECRUITER with another…
Feeling dejected and looking for advice.
I'm not really sure what to do anymore. Like many of you I'm struggling to get by. Each month my bills get paid but I see my savings and checking slowly dwindle. I'm currently working on cutting out some bills where I can but it doesn't seem to help. Costs are going up and when I ask my employer about a raise they said that they are normally capped at 2.5% which is quite frankly insulting. Luckily my administrator is aware of this. I keep seeing posts and messages in the media about how workers have such an advantage in the job market and it is the best time to look for a new job, however when I look it is almost impossible to find anything in the 20 to $25 range. I am a college-educated individual living in the fourth biggest city in my state. All of the jobs…
Stupid Question
Hi everyone ️ im new to Reddit and i just didn't know where else to ask my stupid question. I work through a temp to hire agency PEOPLE READY in U.S Detroit Michigan and the company im currently working through WORICK is a very small building with maybe 6 employees (and yes 1/6 im the only black guy) . Funny thing is when i applied i was told the hours were 7am to 3 . So my second day there the guy ,im assuming the supervisor, told me that it's actually mandatory 6 am to 3 everyday……i mean one extra hour not really complaining but starting wondering legally HERE IN MICHIGAN they can't legally make you work more than 48 hours. Is this a lawsuit waiting to happen?, or are they trying to shake off the only black guy to see if i quit? or neh im overthinking it
All this for 14.75 an hour? GTFOH
I’m 22 years old, a full time college student, and I got my first part time job as a cashier a month ago. While I did not know how to use a cash register, I learned how to use (most) of it after three days. I enjoyed my job for the first three weeks, however, I started dreading going to it recently. Not only do I have to manage a full time course load (15 credits this semester), I have to show up on weekdays from 6:45-11 pm and on Sunday from 5-11 pm. While I don’t mind working evenings, I think working until 11 pm is unreasonable because it does not give me enough time to focus on my schoolwork. I only get one fifteen minute break during my shift and for the rest of my shift, I have to stand in a small space for 4-6 hours, which…
