Figured I could finally share this since I’m out of my (now previous) jobs’ hell hole. Not only is this company (a “new” startup in the states but with a backbone in the EU) creating a 1980’s slog work culture, but I was ultimately placed as a lead on a Work From Home engagement. This engagement was so WFH, that I was literally denied the ability to work from the office that I originally worked out of due to a lack of space unless we rented out a conference room (and there was only 1, so one person wouldn’t have been permitted it’s use). Recently I have had news where I need to be able to assist some family members with health concerns in another state. I work from home for a large corporation. I’ve been there for a year, but my coworker, who is at the same level as me, has been there for around five years. Everyday his employees are coming to me, asking for help, because he is ignoring them. I always help them and I inform my boss of this. My coworker is always rude to me, rarely talks at meetings, if they even bother attending them. He always criticizes or belittles me. It’s noticed by others how they treat me, and again, I inform my boss. Now we have to have a meeting listing things we value about each other and things we do not. First of all I'm a residential plumbing apprentice I've been doing this job for almost 2 years now and its been crazy hard on my body for starting 16.50 and now 21.50 CAND$ Now onto the problem, 2 weeks ago i was moving a bathtub up a flight of stairs and because of the height of this tub, to get it threw the hallway i was lifting at a very weird angle and i hurt my lower back very bad and dropped the tub, then having to crawl off the stairs and get a ride to the doctor. Me – me Coworker – C For context, I am a part-time employee and have been for two years as I'm currently in college. I still don't find this to be a valid reason, if it is the reason, for me not receiving a raise in my pay. My coworker makes a little bit more than I do, but he's full-time, and he's been there a few months longer than I have. Seeing posts about people wanting to get better offers and others suggesting faking it. That does work well. But we as a group can do better. Any of us can willingly offer to write offer letters for you and help you get better pay and benefits. These companies help each other out in all the ways they can. Why shouldn’t we do the same. Comment below if you’re willing to help create offer letters for people that want to get better pay or find better jobs.
Every job I've had has tried to guilt trip me by asking me to be a “team player”, but it is ALWAYS one sided. They want you to be flexible for them, but there is no reciprocation. I just got a job in January that had decent reviews on Indeed and Glassdoor so I was hopeful that I finally got a job with decent management. Nope During the interview, the interviewers handed me an application with stations and hours. I was told to fill it out according to my availability and I signed up for the two stations closest to me (one is 20 minutes away, one is 35 minutes away). By the way, on Indeed they said they were urgently hiring at both of these stations. I go into the interview, everything goes well, and they unofficially hire me. TLDR, job lied to me about salary, I found something much better, and put my notice in. The verbal abuse that I endured for the next two days was horrific, and I didn't come back for the third. Shit like”why didn't you tell me you were looking for a job?” “Because you'd just fire me”. “Well I can just fire you now.” Fuck that guy. Took two weeks off and started my new job yesterday.
