My Boss Got Karma
I work in the retail industry at a grocery store chain. I've been with the company for almost six years and worked at three different stores so far due to going to school and moving to a new area. I started out as a cashier and I'm currently the assistant customer service manager. Yesterday evening, a lady came to our service desk and wanted to return a pound cake she got from our bakery. Please note that we didn't bake this cake – this particular type of cake comes in on our frozen truck and is then thawed and put out for customers. Anyway, she wanted her money back because she claimed it was stale. Nothing abnormal about that. So she handed me her receipt and I tried to give her her money (around $6). She looked at me, confused, and said, “I'm supposed to get double my money back,…
We 100% deserve to be paid more.
So I work in the theater industry as “general crew” and I’ve noticed that we get paid pretty shit $10 an hour for everyone that works there, no matter how good they are at their job, how much they know, what skills they have. Nothing, and word of mouth is that nobody gets a raise, or bonus. Yet our theater makes a SHIT ton via predatory upselling and useless commodities and overpriced everything. None of which we get any sort of commission on for our efforts to make the franchise more money. We all know the theater has the money, they’re a fairly big franchise and I know damn well money we make isn’t going into repairs because we’ve got broken shit everywhere and outdated manual signs. So most of us deserve to be paid more, I won’t say everyone because the staff is pretty young and the kids are…
I want a new job.
I work as a Pharm Tech. Have done it for a long time and currently make almost $21 an hour. I want to do something else besides healthcare. I work in a hospital because I don't like customer service. I also can't afford to get paid less than what I make, maybe a couple dollars less would be okay but nothing less. Any ideas ?
I'm just a part time cashier on minimum wage and although I like my job because the actual job itself doesn't cause me stress, I find it really hard to let go of the horrible customers you inevitably get each day. I have so few hours and yet when I am in, there is just always at least 3-5 people each shift that enrage or upset me. And I don't know how to let these experiences go. I don't want to turn bitter or dread going into work because I like that I just do one thing my whole shift, if people could just be nice I'd be happy but it's seriously getting to me.
I'm the only IT/programmer guy for a small business and I'm a part owner(super minority) as well.. the heads say we need this feature for the site and it's kind of a pain in the ass but not too hard .. but at the same time i'm kind of burned out on shit and fishing is good. SO send back a few times what the specs are on the changes asking questions about specifics (always a good idea) .. then solve and program the new shit and test it .. (maybe a day).. then GO FISHING (or whatever you like) Then keep telling the bosses you are still working some bugs.. send a screenshot and ask about layout if they like it. Every day just send them some crap to make them think you are working like a mofo meanwhile smoke your fish and have a beer then on like…
What is* the right amount of work?
Between (an exploitation of Middle Managers, HR reps, ATS scanning software, and denied pay on technicalites) to… (doing the Laundry) What can be considered happiness while being sustainably poor? Aint nobody gonna be rich or autonomous at the same time. Labor has to be done for compensation of some kind or civilization breaks down (see History of paper Money by Extra Credits: History) As I believe there will always be a Fat Cat of some sort and a bunch of workers, wouldn't a modern Guild system benefit the American Dream better than our current Standards? Guilds are like, unions + businesses as a consolidation of one. What's your opinion?
That title is kinda clickbaity it sounds like I’m just quitting and being a deadbeat dad but I digress! I’ve been working a job I hate for three years now and I’ve finally had enough after they slashed my pay and then started asking me to work overtime every week, once again I digress. I’m leaving this shit show and have found a job offering me 2x my current hourly pay rate with much more stability. It’s a smaller company and I am actually getting good vibes when talking to others in the industry about them. My wife is currently 4 months pregnant and I wanted to take a month off to be with her and the baby however it doesn’t look like I’ll be able to do that since I’ll be starting a new job and will no longer be covered by the FMLA or CFRA. Is there a…
All I am saying is we rebrand them as freeloaders waiting for a government handout. Am I wrong? The whole point of our economy is to stop working. You try to steal enough value from other people's labor to stop contributing your own labor. It's time to stop lauding those that do not contribute labor as anything other than a freeloader.
I'm curious if any armchair theorists, think tanks, or other policy wonk's have given any thought about how America's response to Covid (rampant housing insecurity, 0 worker protections, unaffordable healthcare, etc.) has proven to malicious actors just how susceptible this country is to bioweapons. Workers who are afraid/unable to call out sick, people afraid of going to the doctor because either insane bills or threat of deportation, and a vast indigent population that ensures the pathogen remains endemic, all ensure maximum infection; and this is before throwing in a veritable army of morons screaming “Muh Freedom” who actively sabotage public health campaigns. As we stare down the barrel of a possible World War 3, many people think that nukes will be involved. My hypothesis is that if the top 100 oligarchs in Russia have less money than the top 3 oligarchs in the USA, Putin will release some forgotten horror…
