I. Am. Tired.
I am so tired. Tired of seeing rich people so detached from society. Tired of seeing stories of people being mistreated at work. Tired of being mistreated at every job I land. Tired of being cursed out by grown men who can’t control their emotions. Tired of being told I need to stay at work extra hours since my managers have horrible time management skills. Tired of being made to feel like if I’m not spending 80+ hours a week in a construction trailer, I’m failing my team. Tired of high up executives placing unrealistic deadlines under current market catastrophes. Tired of driving 2 hours a day in commute and only having maybe an hour and a half to decompress when I get home from work, to fall asleep and start the next day. I have so many stories I can share with you all, but I’m honestly tired of…
I horrified my French colleague
I'm currently working in France as part of my PhD research at the French equivalent of the National Institutes of Health. I also have a full-time job in the US which is actually pretty generous and I enjoy my job. I was having lunch with my French colleague and she asked how much vacation time I have at my job in the US. I have the unfathomable amount (by US standards) of 5 weeks of use it or lose it time that we are absolutely required to take (again, a good job, especially by US standards). She seemed confused so I explained that I actually have an unusual amount because I thought she had heard (rightly) that the US has much less. She explained that five weeks is far, far too low and that is the bare minimum here and would be considered a bad offer. She asked what is…
The rising costs of all goods from groceries to gas which are believe it or not necessities for low income people. Food to eat and feed their families, gas to get around to get to jobs to feed their families. The cost of commodities is being price gouged by opportunistic sociopaths that literally justify each and every single atrocity they commit by pointing to the bottom line. Profits are not justifiable at the expense of the poor, they aren’t justified by destroying the planet or entire ecosystems to get, or plundering Mother Nature to the point of irreparable damage. The fact that private individuals can own as many properties as they can afford, that private businesses can do the same has caused both the costs of homes and rentals to skyrocket. Healthcare Childcare Housing Food Are not things that should be for profit businesses in the 21st century. These necessities…
There's a spoken policy in the place where I work that my previous managers and current managers enforce, that after clocking out, you're meant to take out garbage with you on your way out “since it's on the way anyway”. I knew this was off the clock work, and in most instances unpaid overtime, so instead I would gather my things first (put on my jacket, grab my work bag), then take out the garbage, then punch out. I did this twice this week. But then when clocking in this morning I noticed that my punch out times were different, and when I asked my manager about it they stated that they did roll my clock out time back, and that you need to punch out first before taking out garbage, and that everyone else does it anyway. I told them that was a violation of my labor rights and…
