Near impossible to find a “team lift” in warehousing or retail?

I'm just curious how many others have experienced this. You work in a warehouse, or at a place like Home Depot or Lowes, and the workplace emphasizes the importance of a team lift for really heavy objects. But when you need a team lift, the place is so understaffed that you can't find anyone to help, so you end up lifting like 100+ pounds by yourself, and this happens over and over. If you try to find someone to help, it slows you down and management gets on your ass for not working fast enough, so you just lift things by yourself that should require two people. Anyone ever nearly blow your back out because of the difficulty of finding a team lift partner in a material handling setting? Anyone actually blow your back out? I almost did one time lifting a 140 pound grill by myself at Home Depot,…

Walked out the next day after they lowered my pay.

I worked at a Papa Johns a couple years ago as a delivery driver. My pay was 10$ in store and 5$ on the road +tips. The store was doing pretty badly. There would be days where I was the only driver the entire day and I was spending a lot of time inside folding boxes. After some time I was handed a piece of paper but the manager and told to sign it telling me that my pay would be lowered to 6$ across the board, in store and out of store. I suspect this move was made because of how much the company was wasting on drivers spending a lot of time in store. I signed it without understanding my pay would be lowered an average of 1.50$ an hour. Even looked at my past paychecks to be certain that everything added up to a decrease in pay.…

A bunch of massage therapists are quitting and I honestly understand why

I work as a receptionist for a massage clinic that is an establishment, and the owners in my city are pretty bad with the way they treat massage therapists. Massage therapists are contract workers, but the way they are treated at my work makes it seem as though they are employees. Whenever they call in sick, the owners are always questioning them, and always try to force them to come to work. One of the therapists called in sick since she had dizzy spells and was passing out, and one of the owners made a snarky comment along the lines of “hmmm, i don’t believe her but okay.” A lot of them find it hard to discuss their hours since the owners see everything as business, so more hours is definitely acceptable but anything less is considered horrible. Now a bunch of therapists are quitting due to this treatment, and…

“You Came In So Clearly You’re Not Feeling That Bad”

Said to me after I begrudgingly came to work after a migraine that last literally the entire night, to the point that I got maybe an hour and a half of sleep, because my supervisor needed me to cover another receptionist. When I told her I didn't appreciate the implication that I'd been lying or trying to get out of coming to work, she tried to spin it as a “you just don't give yourself enough credit, you're capable of so much more than you think!” I still have 15 months of my GI bill left, and I just got a huge increase in my disability payments because of my migraines. Seriously considering quiting and focusing exclusively on school so that I can be a paralegal like I've wanted to be for years

My time would be better spent doing WHAT!!??

This happened many years ago but still a testament to a lot of similar firms. I work in the world of Staffing/Recruiting and my first job in the industry was with a very large, well-known firm that a lot of people in this business have likely started at or a firm similar to this one. I had already spent many years within B2B and relationship sales before having worked as a Capital Markets Broker so the transition to this role as a Client Account Manager was a fairly seamless transition. Right out the gate, the desk manager was a plastic smile, corporate puppet whose actual job was to look for reasons to fire people! The turnover here was neck-breaking and every week there was a new hire with a new fire so I stopped bothering to make friends with anyone. I had little children and a family to support so…

Ready to find a new job but I feel like “good jobs” don’t exist anymore

I'm 8 years post-grad and have had 5 corporate jobs. Every single company i worked for was broken in some way or another. I worked for an agency for 2 years. Earned a promotion by their “standards” but I got passed over because my manager vetoed it. She claimed i would be advancing before she did at the same point in her career…. This same agency was client-facing. They had me work a 100+ hour week and when I went to bill my hours to the client, they told me to cut my total in half so the client wouldn't think I was actually forced to work that much (even though I was..) I found out they were hiring new grads for less than they were paying me 2+ years in, so I found a new job. I worked at job #2 in the nonprofit / fundraising space for 2…
