I just quit my job of 5+ years in the financial tech industry. Money was very attractive, but you were expected to kill yourself working: days, nights, most Saturdays, frequent on-call, and painfully few company holidays and PTO. The expectation was you work like a dog, and work is above else. I burnt out, but I was easily the most experienced in my group. I agreed to give 4 week's notice as opposed to the two I had originally planned. As a result, I now have to work an on-call shift in my last 2 weeks, and have to jump through hoops to “train” my other peers on the stuff I did. I asked my boss if he was going to re-assign my on-call week as I have leaving and his response was “Uhhh, no. You still work here.” Fuck you, dude. I'll just turn off phone at night.

I am an MBA student and while I was doing my course, I didn't update my Linkedin profile yet. A headhunter reached out and I went through a few interviews to land a (fairly high level) job at one of the startups in the area. I told them that I still have school commitment and I would be spending 5-10 hours of work time at school every week but I would be able to make up for that by OT. Note that this offer was ~ 20% higher pay than my previous job. But to be honest, rarely anyone in startups cared about clocking in / out so I got away with that pretty easily. I wasnt contributing much because my first few months were onboarding, i.e: me trying to learn and understand the business. Last 2-3 weeks were crazy because I was juggling between schoolwork and work but also…
Just as the title says. Need off for an appointment on Thursday, told boss man no less than 3 times over a combo on text and email. Find out I’m scheduled a full shift for that day. Told him I won’t be coming. Still waiting for a response. At this point if my boss tries to pull a fast one on me like last time or tries to order me into work anyways, I’m ready to walk. Wish me luck! :))))
See title, because it's the same as bailing out the banks, which is the problem. Otherwise bank will just give out more loan and have the student ask for government to bail, and it repeats. If anything government should make bank outright cancels it (which isn't going to happen) or just make all the loan NO interest. ( more likely ) Using tax dollars not just make some people not want to support it (which is an issue), but also not tackle the actual issue ( stupid high rate and banks) Again, personal opinion.
|—————————————————————————————————————————-| This is an update to this post (((this was written on friday and saved until sunday to comply with rule 9: No text-message screenshots))) |—————————————————————————————————————————-| two of us handed them in on thursday, two others handed it in the day after INCLUDING THE MANAGER, and another one was put in yesterday. The owners were at the shop yesterday and, while I missed the first owner because she had left before my shift started, apparently she was suuper pissed off and wouldn't talk to anyone outside of a “hi” or “bye”. The second owner came in during my shift and was a bit more amicable and actually wished me good luck with wherever im going which was nice – shame hes an awful boss to work under :/ Also, theyve already changed the schedule to have them and the area manager in after our last days so they now have…
What skills do you have?
I used to consider soft skills more useful. But the ruling class is all soft skills and we’ve tried to emulate that and I just don’t know many people with actual skills needed to literally make the world (blue collar)
Showing the breakdown
How do you guys feel about showing the breakdown of your living expenses to your boss so they can see how little they pay you? It was just an idea I had this morning
If I have to hear one more person talk about how people are lazy and don't want to work, I'm going to lose my mind. I have actively been applying for jobs and yet keep getting turned down. I can't get jobs I'm qualified for or over qualified for. I'm a student so I just need some part time something and yet no one will hire me even with my past experience in retail and food service. I have been choosey and not applying to food service except one place. I guess I have to suck it up buttercup and go work in fast food again….fml…..
Why do we work? For food, shelter, security. At the basic core. This is all we need. Internet is the only thing we can’t get on our own. Say everyone on this forum did a global strike for a month to show every corporation that they need us more than we need them. Everything would collapse and in the meantime if we grew our own food. We would be literally be fine, all while applying pressure to these greedy fucks. So back to the original post. We should have a thread for education on self sustainability. It’s vital. How to grow your own food. -How to ready / purify drinkable water -etc…
