Screw you guys, I’m going home…
I started a new job full-time this year after being laid off at my last job. About three hours before I was to start my very first day my phone woke me up. It was my sister telling me that our father had died. This was not entirely unexpected as his health had slowly deteriorated over the last year. The general expectation was that he would likely not live more than another few years. But still it was quite a shock to suddenly hear that he had passed. Just the day before we had scheduled another video call so he could talk again with my kids. I really wanted them to spend more time with him. Anywho, I called my boss when it was reasonable in her time zone and explained what had happened. Her immediate gut reaction was to tell me to take the day, to take as long…
