A month ago I quit my job because my boss is an asshole. I’ve put out probably 200 applications and resumes and haven’t even got an email back. I have $8 in my bank account and I think I’m completely fucked.

On “people” not wanting to work.
We hear the concept of people not wanting to work any more quite often these days. The concept is not new, though it used to be focused on just slaves not wanting to work. Which it kind of still is today. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drapetomania Drapetomania was a supposed mental illness that, in 1851, American physician Samuel A. Cartwright hypothesized as the cause of enslaved Africans fleeing captivity. Slave life was so pleasant, the official view was, that only the mentally ill would want to run away. In actuality, the desire for freedom is a natural human impulse. Cartwright specifically citing the tendency to flee the plantations that held the subjects in slavery in evidence; for why would slaves happy with their condition seek to flee? To these physicians, such people had to be sick, impervious to the natural order of things.
Glad that Uni’s starting us off early
Quit my job after 2 weeks of suffering.
Started a position for office assistant two weeks ago, but the title of the job doesn’t match the pay. First off they gave me a two page list of job duties that were pushing the boundaries of assistant. I have had to ship packages, answer phone calls, clean after people in the lunchroom, be a IT, label samples, clean the coffee machine (all 2 of them) and finally buying groceries for the office fridges. Then I have to deal with my bosses screaming at the top of his lungs towards other employees and myself. No wonder the last assistant lasted 2 months. Do yourself a favor avoid jobs with the word assistant next to them.
Title. We have to pay for Netflix, rent, car payment, everything at the beginning of the month. But when do workers get paid? Every two weeks following completion of the work that they do. Why aren't workers paid before they do work? Has anyone ever wondered this? It doesn't make sense. If I'm going to work 40 hours for your company, then why wouldn't I be paid in advance? Think about that. That's insane. I will spend an entire half a month working my ass off before I even see a penny.
i am in tennessee. according to the flsa “an employer cannot keep employees’ tips under any circumstances; managers and supervisors also may not keep tips received by employees, including through tip pools”. does this only apply to employees making below $7.25? i make $11 right now. we were able to see on our payroll that whoever is logged into the register makes the electronic tips, but we aren’t sure yet if the owners take these tips on payday (they specifically told me when i was hired that they keep the electronic tips). we’re assuming that they take the tips on payday because people who have been here longer than me do not have the tips on their past payrolls.
Mcdonalds near me is getting desperate
Now I'm left with $700 left to my name and bills and rent due at the end of the month. Oh well, at least I get 2 weeks before my world comes crashing down. Good 'ol America 🙂
