I have to work at such a breakneck pace, and have so much to do, that if I try to take pride in my work it only stresses me out more. The only way to survive is not give a damn and just chug along like a machine.

I worked as a server from June-December 2021 and recently did my taxes with the W-2 they sent me only to find out that they never took my state taxes out of each paycheck! I never caught this before because we didn’t get physical pay stubs and never knew the password to the website where I could access it. Now I owe more than I’m getting back all because they never bother to take out enough money! How is this legal it seems sooo fucked up to me

Maybe it’s petty but it adds up. My fast food place requires you to wear uniforms- they make you buy the pants and they have the shirts and aprons at the store for you to change into. However they make you arrive early to your shift to change into them. They don’t allow you to clock in before you change, because the computers to clock in are behind the counter (not in the back room). Is this legal? It feels really unfair. Like if I have to come in at 7am I should get paid for the time I’m in there, including changing. Not be forced to come in at 6:50am to change and not get paid til 7. Tbf if I brought this up, I’d just get fired cuz there’s always a ton of people in my city desperate for jobs.

So my brother got his CDL a year ago and because of an accident a couple years ago and his lack of experience he is expensive to insure. Due to this, he got a long hall job with a company that hire anyone, pays like shit, theres always a problem and being paid by the mile, any delay is costing him money. They never give him his hometime. They promised to get him home for thanksgiving and my sons first birthday party and never did. They didnt even get him home when his fiance was in the hospital miscarrying his daughter at 20 weeks. They asked if she was “critical.” Just horrible people to work for. So he toughed it out for the year and he just got a job offer for way more money, guarantied 3 days home time every other week. Massive sign on bonus, etc. So he…

Im moving across the state. My last day is April 9th. I gave my general manager a months notice. Then reminded him again two weeks ago. He simply said he hadn’t told anyone yet because he’s “not letting me go.” I wrote a note in our managers office and verbally told all other managers about my last day. Schedule came out today and Im scheduled until the 13th because again they’re “not letting me go.” I told them again I will be living in a different city for those shifts so no I won’t be there. Also, I’m supposed to be a transfer but since the GM isn’t “letting me go.” He hasn’t done anything to help me transfer so I’ll have to reapply in a different city and cross my fingers I get my job. I hate it here.

A little context, my partner is in a super competitive field where there are way more workers than spots available. Little to say we were ecstatic when she was offered the job which she really wanted. We are both graduating college here soon and we have both had jobs lined up to start in May. We were getting ready to lease an apartment and everything, things were looking alright. My partner emails the job about 2 weeks ago because she needs a job offer letter to prove income for the land lords and hears nothing, even after repeated follow ups. She ends up calling today only to hear “yeah, we hired 2 new people so we are going to prioritize them instead.” Even after she got verbal confirmation on a start date and everything. I work for an organization in California. I have a whole team of part-time staff that actuality need to be full time. I’ve been petitioning for almost half a year (since I’ve been hired) that my whole team needs to be full time to fulfill the duties that is expected of us from the higher ups. However they’ve been used to exploiting my team prior to bringing me on and think that they can continue. My CEO has told me to my face benefits are expensive and before I was hired my team was “encouraged” to work through their lunch where another higher-up would manually plug in a lunch break and move their overtime to other days. I put a stop to that immediately once I was hired. Quoting labor laws. Now everyone is “forced” to take breaks and lunches and I told me team if another department ask anything…
