So I started at a job 4 months ago making 21/hour. I found out that a few of my coworkers who have been here for OVER 10 YEARS are making less than me. (18/ hour to be exact) anddd they know a lot more than I do obviously. We’re extremely understaffed and I’m assuming that’s why they gave me what they did. I have to tell them because that’s just not fair. But I don’t want my pay to be affected and don’t want everyone to hate me. Any suggestions appreciated

I have a confession, I feel guilty for the salary that I make in my current line of work. I’m not rich by any means but I make a decent enough salary to not want for much. The reason I feel guilty is because I feel like the work I do could be done by most moderately intelligent people and it’s not very taxing at all. I don’t have to be very physically active during my work hours, I can take my time to work through my projects, and the biggest kicker is that I have 0 customers to interact with. Hell, even some days I downright enjoy my job. I honestly feel like the people that should be earning my kind of salary are the ones that bust their ass every day at a customer facing job and have to put on a fake smile every day just so…

So lately I’ve seen some people return-to-office celebrating being back with others. I also saw someone say they’re waiting for more people to return and “get their act together” and come in. It’s cool that some people are enjoying being back, and I’m happy they’re happy. At the same time, it’s not wrong to enjoy or prefer remote work. Just because people don’t return-to-office doesn’t mean they don’t have ‘their act together’. What does that even mean? I find this view really insensitive and saddening. There’s so many reasons and benefits for working at home…it saves money, time, etc. It’s also saving me a lot of energy dealing with a disability. I am so grateful to be able to do remote work, I love the balance. I feel sad that this view point I saw is not being considerate of the many people and life circumstances that prefer WFH. Just…

Had my annual review today. I've been in this role for 4+ years and on this pay scale for even longer. I've met all my objectives yet again, tbh I could do this job with my eyes shut and I'm reasonably well paid. When I expressed my disappointment at the lack of opportunities for progression my manager suggested I “seek out a stretch assignment”. What that means is more responsibility for no extra money, GTF. When I moved into this role I took over from someone who was paid more than me, if anything it's already a stretch assignment! Honestly I'd leave, but the money considering my lack of responsibility is like crack. Just venting.

I quit the job, but I can’t quit the cycle. Before I jump on the job seeker train, let me take a moment to explain how this happened. My job was originally an office job – project based and was already a huge shit show of ineffectual management before the pandemic. Then 2020 comes and we are working from home. I loved it. I didn’t have to look at or hear everyone. I made $18 an hour and did a ton of work. Some people made $25 an hour and got to take 3 hour breaks. Unfair structure of work and pay.
