On/off the clock discrepancy

Greetings r/antiwork! Im excited to contribute to this community today. After working a half hour past the normal quitting time with absolutely no heads up whatsoever I get into the truck with my boss and we begin our 30 minute drive back to the shop where my day began and my personal vehicle was parked. During this drive I was informed that our commute back to home base from the job site is not to be counted on the payroll. I brought it up to him because I was kind of excited at the opportunity to end up with an hour of overtime between the time worked past normal quitting time and the half hour drive. If I’m not getting payed then its MY time. I would never choose to be within a mile of my boss on my own time let alone stuck in a vehicle with him. This…

Remember when

Remember when gas was less than a dollar. Well, as teenager back in California you could buy almost six gallons of gas, get tickets to the movies, and purchase a burger Fries and milkshake on 3 hours worth of work.

Pool Boy Scoop & Run

I've worked for 2 different pool companies now and the first one was a start up and I could tell this guy was just as clueless as I was when I first started 6 months ago, but I've got similar experience in other industries and my buddy has 15 years in the industry so I've picked on quick. The second company I worked for had me cleaning 200 fucking pools a week and didn't do their own repairs, thankfully because of them not doing repairs and rarely getting back to customers when they called I dropped off my buddies number at multiple pools and have 2 pools lined up to have me clean their pools once next month rolls around. Wish me luck running my own truck, no bosses no managers!

Etsy Sellers to go on Strike

In February, Etsy CEO Josh Silverman had good news to share with investors: sales and revenue were at an all-time high, sending Etsy stock soaring. At the same time, Silverman had less welcome news for sellers, delivered via email: transaction fees were going up, from 5 percent to 6.5 percent, or a 30 percent increase, beginning April 11th. For Kristi Cassidy, an active seller on Etsy since 2007, the fee increase was the last straw. Cassidy, who sells gothic Victorian costumes and accessories, had a happy first decade on the platform. She was able to reach a customer base eager to buy handmade products, and she grew her business selling made-to-order and custom pieces. But for the last few years, changes at Etsy that she feels hurt sellers were piling up — rising fees, mandatory marketing programs, and an influx of drop shippers — and the marketplace no longer felt…

Micromanagement is driving me nuts

I’ve been at this new workplace for 2 months now and I’m already burnt out. My manager is a micromanager from hell, he literally treats me like a child & a personal assistant. I’ve even written down an entire list of things he’s done that make me reconsider this job. First off, biggest red flag: He uses time doctor to monitor me, for people who don’t know, time doctor is an employee monitoring app. I work mostly remote and this app monitors my screen by taking screenshots every couple of minutes. This isn’t that big of a deal but it even records the amount of times I click around on a mouse or type on a keyboard. My manager always comes to me and asks me what I’m doing and that he’s looking at time doctor and can see I haven’t moved my mouse around much etc. It’s crazy. Another…

Pay cut by 1/3 — Double Standards

I found out 7 days in advanced that the pay for my bartending position will be cut by 1/3 back to pre-pandemic levels. Ignoring the fact that no pay cut is necessary and the company just blatantly, literally doesn’t value the bartenders…my coworkers got a 6 day notice. 6 days later I’m going to be fired for not letting them know 7 days in advanced that I wouldn’t continue the bartending job for so much less money (I do multiple positions). I was told that the schedule is already set. 6 days is enough to tell a whole job class their pay is cut by 1/3 but not fair notice for them that I won’t be doing it at that price? I would have told them 7 days in advance but I was in shock. I can’t have 24 hours to decide if I am will to accept such a…

Sick of companies randomly canceling positions after enduring so many interview rounds

I’ve been in more than enough situations where I’ve interviewed with a company, gotten to the final 4th or 5th round, only to be told that the position I was applying for was canceled or “put on hold indefinitely”. Do companies know how INCREDIBLY frustrating and insulting this is for the candidate? It’s not even an offer or rejection, just a “someone decided to cancel the position you’re applying for”. Weeks of prep, hours and hours of interviews where I am sometimes put through stressful assessments, and long stretches of waiting to see if I made it to the next round – all for nothing. What a waste of time. Apparently companies do it all the time, from what I’ve been told, and everyone just accepts it. Can we stop normalizing this hiring practice? It’s beyond rude to waste a candidate’s time like this. This is a reason why I…

Weird Interview

Had a Zoom interview today. When I was invited to the interview (email) they used the wrong name. Then they immediately apologized. OK, I made a note of it, but stuff happens. The rest of the email, time noted in two time zones, Zoom info, was all nicely done. When I logged into Zoom, all the names were right, but no one opened the meeting. I waited 10 minutes (it was first thing in the morning in their time zone) then emailed them. Then I called the cell number I was given, and it went to voicemail. At this point, I was curious how long this was going to go on, so I kept emailing and calling. At 9:30, I finally got the interviewer, and she told me that the interview was tomorrow. I told her that I had the email open in front of me, and it was today.…
