Confused

Peer does not show up to work or take work remotely for 2 months, both manager and director start calling me to figure out where my peer is and I cover for him explaining maybe he's sick, or on PTO. They are not pleased and ask me to cover. Np Week later after I rollout all equipment he connects a few cables and connects a remote tech to a system and is hailed as a genius, perfect employee, and thanked by everyone from leadership and other groups. I am so confused as honestly he does very little, I am breaking my ass and I never get that type of curtosy. Love the employer and team but ffs why not thank the people doing 2x as much or that are avail when you need them and don't disappear for 2 fucking months. It's like being shit on.

It’s the Welfare!

TLDR: People think Welfare is why there's no employees still? Not the low wages, 2 month long potential hiring process that you get ghosted on at any point, the lack of housing, the hoops to jump through to even attain housing, the lack of any healthcare and likelihood of being a hired temp just to get in? No, it's clearly laziness that is preventing us from getting good candidates /s Have any of you ever received welfare? Before you downvote, let me give some context. I work in tech and we were waiting for a meeting to start (everyones favorite time of the day), and a discussion about the difficulty of getting decent candidates came up. Of course, without fail, one of the older folks in the room who hasn't been on the job market in like 15-ish years laments “It's the Welfare! Nobody wants to work anymore!” I try…

Too much sitting/screen time at work. Advice?

I realise the irony of posting this via a computer, but I'm switching off to play a board game in a second (because I realised that, as fatigued as I feel, spending more time on a screen wasn't going to do me any favours). Summer is a quiet time at work, so we don't get to leave the office for meetings. It's already started slowing down, and I'm not a fan. Far too much focus time, far too much screen time, far too much sitting. What is there to do? I have hobbies for when I'm home (craft, baking, reading), I walk or cycle as a commute and I never stay in the office at lunch time, I am also going camping soon (hoping to make a regular thing of it, it's certainly cheap enough)…but so much of my week is spent at work, and I really want something to…

big blue hardware store chain intentionally paying the only trans employee less!

I am so incredibly done with working here. I'm on EBT, my fiancee is struggling mental health wise so I'm the only one who can work. I work 2 jobs, I substitute teach and work at said hardware store. I am paid less than people who have been at my position longer, and the new hires. it is not experience or seniority based even though they told me that. I am the only person who is openly trans (as in asking for my name to be my preferred name on my name tag) and also the only person who has a disability and needs to sit sometimes between customers. I try to go above and beyond every time I am at work, and I hate myself for it. my time is worth less to this company, for no other obvious reason than that I am transgender and disabled. I feel…

Having Multiple Job Experiences??

The title might sound confusing, but during the last few interviews I've had, the employer's have pointed out that I've had multiple jobs that only lasted a year or two. For context: Over the last decade or so a I've worked at a lot of independent graphic design/print production businesses in my general area that have sadly shut down altogether for one reason or another, so as a result my job experience shows a lot of different places that didn't really last more than a couple years at most. Can anyone explain why employers are so fixated on this detail? Or is it just something involving company loyalty bs?

Maybe you smart people can help me!

I have a sexual harrasment case going on within Petsmart right now. My old manager who witnessed me being sexually harassed has opened a case with associate relations and has spoken out against her on my behalf. I quit Petsmart about 2 weeks ago after a year of this shit. Was wondering if I have grounds to sue? I'm in Michigan. I'm a 22 year old female. The person who sexually harassed me at work is my boss(Store Leader) and 34F. I have witnesses and I have texts that I could try to reach out to my phone provider to get of her blatantly sexually harassing me. Does anyone know who to reach out to or what to do?

Mandatory OT

Hi all, background to start. I work at a factory as a maintenance mechanic. We have a lot of OT that’s mandated because we are short on maintainers. We work 12 hr shifts, 6-6, and we are on a 4 on 3 off 3 on 4 off schedule. They take guys from the opposite end of the week to work for the other crew to cover, and that’s the OT. They pack it full to the point of sometimes I get a day, maybe 2 off a week. My first problem is obvious, that they’re basically destroying any personal time I get to myself. My second problem, is they take all requests for time off at the beginning of the year, or need like a months notice for unpaid off time or something like that. And tied into that second problem, is we go through the OT, days before we…

Messed up and now I’m disappointed in my coworkers.

A coworker of mine who has been vocal about pointing out less than ethical practices recently got managed out. My workplace has been very vocal about how damaging discussing wages is “for the company” and isn't tolerated. After my coworker was fired I found out he made quite a bit more than me in the groupchat. I shared what I was being paid too…. and no one else shared after that. They just ignored it. I feel a bit humiliated because that tells me I'm probably making quite a bit less than them and they'd rather keep that to themselves than share. Reviews are coming up and I want to insist on more pay as I desperately need it but there's no way for me to have leverage without admiting to my bosses I ignored their expressed (albeit wrong) wishes and discussed wage. Im just so tried of people in…

Unemployment dispute

Got a call today from California EDD because my former employer is disputing my claim from September 2020- September 2021. They said I might have to pay back 28-36k because I refused work when they reopened during Covid. I told the employer I wasn’t coming back because I was a full time student. I told Edd I didn’t go back because I didn’t feel safe (which is true), it was a bartending/security position. Can anyone offer some advice on how to appeal this or does anyone have a similar experience? I read in Edd website that concern for illness is grounds to refuse work, I think that can apply to me what do you think?
