30 day evaluation
I know it isn’t unheard of but I was never made aware I would have a 30 day evaluation. I heard my coworkers talking about a 90 day one but not 30. Plus my boss never mentioned it so obviously I don’t even know what I’m being evaluated on. I work night shift at my job and none of the admin are there at that time. I haven’t had any feedback on my work this far. Should I be alarmed nobody told me about an evaluation? My boss texted me saying to come in tomorrow to discuss. I texted him back immediately and asked if I had access to the evaluation on our portal ahead of time? It has been 3 hours and he has yet to reply.
I mean cool but….
I've seen so many posts, read so many articles, and listened to so many people explain how, in accordance with the rise of inflation, our minimum wage should be upwards of around 27$ an hour. So I have to ask, is this achievable? Is there something that we, the people, can do to get this? With politicians being in the pockets of corporate officials, and so many people seeming to be acting against this movement, is this more than just some fever dream? I've seen countless stories of business owners cry about not having enough workers while hardly paying anything, and there are restaurants that are legally paying below minimum wage, sometimes as low as 2$ an hour because the workers get “plenty of tips”. Are these excuses ever going to be called out on a national level, or are we going to be stuck with the poor slowly getting…
Yesterday she texted me that she would call me at 11am today for a phone interview. A bit after 11:30am when I had still heard nothing I decided to call the number she texted me from, but the problem was it was a general number for the employment agency(?) neatest location and a robot answered asking me to pick one of four options, none of which applied to me. I tried pressing 1 in hopes of talking to someone to help me find a way to reach her but after getting to a robot voice dead end I gave up on that. I looked up the company online and tried to find a different number where I could talk to an actual human, but couldn’t find anything. I called that number back and this time pressed 2 (it was supposed to be if you needed to talk to someone about…
I just spent an hour talking to the other people on my direct team and everyone is interested in at least getting more info. The biggest hold up is that we work in Arizona, which is a right to work state. Most jobs are not union jobs here, so a lot of folks just don’t know what unions do for them. A few of my coworkers also said that they are willing to look into more info, but have had less than great experiences with unions in AZ, saying they didn’t feel they really did anything for them other than charge union fees. Which I think is a fair concern, and one that I just don’t know how to address. I know there are union reps and union employees in this sub, so any information y’all can shoot me would be greatly appreciated!
I might be publishing articles for an organization to inform people what legal rights they have as employees. For example, a lot of people don’t even know they can (and should) discuss wages with coworkers. Mostly I’m trying to provide information to encourage self-advocacy (I don’t think we should have to self-advocate for the basics, but that’s the writing goal for now). What else do you want employees to know?
Long story short, I work in business administration and I’ve been with my current employer for over six years. Because of my experience, I lead several side projects that no one else on my team assists with, in addition to my normal day-to-day responsibilities. I finally worked up the courage to ask for a raise and got turned down because little did I know after I got hired, HR has since added a bullet point at the end of my position’s job description that says “other duties as assigned.” So basically all the extra projects I bust my ass on every day “fall under” this criteria, which allows my company to give people extra work for no extra pay.
