HELLLP!

So I was head hunted today! I had a recruiter from a large so cal medical facility contact me for a Lead Medical Coding job, which is one step above what I currently do. It's offering 80,000/ year. I currently make 53,000. As it's a pretty steep increase I am, of course, intrigued! Here's where I need help, what are some good questions to ask in order to get info on what work/ life balance looks like for them, and what the culture is like? I really like my boss and the company I work for now, and while I could use the extra money (single mom of 3), I don't want to walk into chaos for it. Anyone have any thoughts?

Can my employer legally ask me to confront a thief?

My manager recently went off on me for not confronting a thief who was very obvious about it. The guy just walked in, grabbed some product that I was near (not within arms reach, but within a couple steps reach), and shoved it in his pocket. I saw it and just kinda looked at him, and he looked at me and walked out. My manager proceeded to yell at me for just standing there, but I'm not sure what he wanted me to do? The dude easily had a foot on me, and probably 100 lbs. He yelled at and berated me for not stepping in and “contributing to loss prevention” and implied that there would be some kind of punishment. I looked through our companies guidelines, but couldn't find if he can actually do anything about it. The product was worth $15 btw

I wish a boss would

My boss was being shitty so I put in my two weeks. He turned around and fired me the next day. Lmao, I had an interview lined up the day I put in my two weeks and was in the process of talking to 3 other companies the next day. Yet you told me it took you weeks to find someone fill my position?? Good luck Let me remind you that the labor market belongs to the employees now, make sure they know that. Take no shit, don't feel bad about leaving for a better job, know your worth.

Burned out at work, so I’m starting a union.

Ahoy, comrades! I work for the largest non-profit in animal welfare in the Southeast. Lately, I’ve been feeling burned out by work. For a little bit of background, I’m homeless yet I work full-time (despite disabilities) and even get overtime. $15/hour isn’t enough for me to find any living accommodation. It’s been getting to me, but I still love my job. Since being in my position there has been one thing that makes my work dreadful. Nepotism. The life partner of the CEO isn’t my boss yet demeans and dominates me like I’m a dog. From my understanding, she treats everyone poorly and acts as if we should grovel at her feet. I’ve talked to HR about a pattern of her exploiting my labor to do hers and grooming me to do that since starting. They talked to her, and HR promised me it is over and everything is solved.…

My boss thought I was joking about my intent of notice to quit

Today my boss & I were discussing ways we as a company could do better for the environment as a whole. He said “if you don’t like things the way they are why don’t you just find a different company to work for?” So I decided to turn the tables on him & I said “you know what that’s a great suggestion. Put me down as working only until the end of this month.” He gave me a very shocked look & said “but where will you go?” He wasn’t expecting my response & I feel that he is going to be very surprised when I hand in a written notice of my intent to quit since it didn’t quite register the first time. 🤷‍️

5 people showed up today…

I work at a large retail warehouse chain. I am a department supervisor (technically a manager). I got this job because I am the only worker in my department under 50 years old and therefore the only worker who’s there full time. When I first started working just over a year ago, the store would have on average 8 managers on duty, and around 20-30 store employees including cashiers. I came in to work the closing shift tonight and there was 5 employees working. 3 managers, 2 cashiers. That’s it. One of the managers was running the front end and one was sitting in his office in the back. I got called about 30 times to go do managerial overrides over the course of 4 hours. I’m currently sitting in my car eating my lunch confused as to what to even do. I toss around with the idea of putting…

Coworker reported me to Ethics!

A coworker filed a very serious accusation of me to Ethics, the facility investigator contacted me, I explained to them that the accusation is not true and that this stems from a story I recounted at a work happy hour. I could have lost my clearance and my job due to this lie. The investigator stated that they are comfortable closing the case after speaking with me, but the thing is….I only told this story to 3 coworkers while we were standing in a circle drinking at happy hour. I need advice on how to proceed forward because all 3 of these people have been extremely kind to me, praised me for my hard work, and told me they love working with me…so its really personal to me that one of them would try to ruin my career like this. Also I was tasked with hosting a farewell happy hour…

I assumed this community is anti-exploitation, not anti-employer. Am I wrong?

For a long time, it seemed the main posts in this group were horror stories employers, managers, job posts, interviews etc that set out to exploit and mistreat employees. Now I see posts about “not” jamming locks and destroying cash registers, or complaining about not being allowed to fuck around at work, or about cheating an employer regardless of its practices. I just want to clarify what type of community this is. Are we against any organization trying to trade your time/effort for money? Is there a presumption that there is no such thing as a good boss that treats their employees with respect, allows for work life balance, and compensates them fairly? Or, are we simply demanding that companies who exploit their workers be held to task and forced by legislation or collective action to end such practices?

My boss think 12 hours worth of driving and gas is worth $50

Sorry if my formatting is wrong. This is my first post. I work in landscaping. While my boss’s truck was in the shop, he asked if I would be alright with driving the crew to the job site (which is about an hour and a half away). I told him I have no problem with driving AS LONG AS IM COMPENSATED APPROXIMATELY. I proceeded to drive 4 days that week, an hour and a half each way, three hours round trip, for a grand total of 12 hours on the week. Come Friday we get done with work and drive home. When I drop him off, he thanks me and hands me a $50 bill. It happened suddenly, so I wasn’t really able to realize how much I got ripped off. The next week I approached him and explained that what he paid me wasn’t even enough to cover the…
