I’m putting in my 2 weeks notice on Monday. I got a surprise call that I got another job today. Since I will be at the office but my boss is WFH on Monday, I am a little nervous about how to tell her. But I know I will feel so much better after. I can’t wait to get it over with and get my life back! I’m going to remind myself that they don’t own me and that it’s my life. I can do this! I’m taking charge.

Want to leave the US
Thinking about leaving the US for Denmark I already got my passport and work visa and i'm thinking of racking up as much credit debt and loan debt as I can before leaving. I already have 35,000 dollars in student loan debt and debt in general but I always made more then minimum payment so I have a good credit score. Any possible ramifications of this will they try and drag me back?
It used to be that we qualified for a paid week of vacation after one year of being promoted and could take one paid week of vacation every year from then on. However, this was changed so that every 500 hours worked equals two days of PTO. This wouldn’t be so bad if it weren’t for the fact that I started planning for a trip since November of last year, counting on that vacation time. I’m still going on that trip since it’s already been paid for but I won’t have that extra cushion to fall back on. I do, however, think that 500 hours for roughly 16 hours of PTO is bullshit.
I just took my first Saturday off in probably a year and happened to hear the Eddie Kendricks song Skipping Work Today. I saw the list of songs in the Antiwork About section but thought there is a lot missing. Bonus points for a good story. It was like being in a different world being off on a saturday, btw. It's like I've been missing a huge piece of how people live and behave. My whole world and everyone's complacency with our horrible work culture is a bit easier to explain now.
Our entire economy is being price fixed in a way that defies actual, economic capitalism. Rent Seeking, is not value producing activity, says every legitimate capitalist economist ever. This economy is an aberration, a deformity, a lie. Land access would fix it for everyone; Imagine yourself as a business owner with a few employees and you are going to be the best boss you can be. Two thirds, more, of your expenses are rent, and the rents of your suppliers, and the rents of your staff. Now look around your city, any city, and see all the vacancy that these USSR, (bad macro policy) style communism is producing. Ghost cities. One of the basic tenants of capitalism, is that the self-balancing system of resources keep capital both employed and in its most valuable use. Instead we're a nation of structures going derelict. Value being destroyed in the name of producing…
Should I stay or move on??
Hey all so I have been on here for so many times talking about how toxic my workplace is that I ended up passing out and being out sick for a week. Not sure if this is the right subreddit but I need opinion! So I gave my 2 weeks this Monday and my last day is next Friday. I was set on leaving because management was awful and everyone left my team leaving me all by myself being only here for 7 months. Any how, my direct boss got moved to a different department. So I don’t have a direct boss and that spot is open. A colleague of mine from that department my boss moved to called me yesterday telling me how she understands why I’m leaving as well as everyone else from my team. My old boss was terrible at being a team lead. He’s super smart…
(I just want this post to get seen enough to get advice, not to go viral.) I applied for a role in a better department and got approved by what would have been my new manager. My current manager denied my transfer because our department is short staffed. The thing is, all our departments are short staffed. I don't want to work for him for a variety of reasons, and him denying my transfer is icing on the cake. He thinks this is a jail cell but I can always quit. I don't want to quit the company though. I would love my new position. It is better in every way, including pay. The problem is both managers are at the same level, so unless there is an agreement from both, I cannot transfer departments. And this man is petty. I already contacted HR. Yes I know they don't work…
I wish I could just ask why they care
I work in a call centre for an insurance company, specifically in provider services. Most of the calls I take are for denied claims. I really thought that working in provider services and speaking with secretaries would be nice and respectful, but no. I get so many people acting like complete Karens it’s insane, and I want so badly to know why they care?? Like I’m not invested in whether the insurance pays the claim at all. It’s not even like the member will have to pay if we don’t, these are mostly Medicaid claims. There is absolutely no reason why I’d care. These secretaries don’t work on commission or anything. I understand doing their job and calling a bunch and all of that, I just don’t understand why they’ll scream at me and shit. They get paid either way, so why do they feel emotionally invested enough in these…
How much money would you need to never have to work again or retire early?
