Month: April 2022
I'll provide mine. I use to work in a big tech company in Canada as a team lead of decent size. One morning, a flash snowstorm hits us, from 10 to 12, about a feet of snow fell and there was another foot announced for the rest of the day. I showed up to work as most of the team except for management who decided to work from home ( a perk only they had ). Around 11, I send an teams message to my superior saying the weather is awful and would asked if people could finish up and leave early. No response. Around 12:30, I make the call to send my team home for their safety. Send a message on the team channel to tell them to wrap up and go home. Not even 20 seconds after I sent said message, manager who didn't respond to me sends…
So I got fired yesterday….
I moved recently, in January. I had been with my previous job for 5 years, and my previous job before that for 6 years. Well, I started this gig on Feb 1st. The agreement was that he would match my previous salary, and I'd be just that. Salary. Everything seemed good. He seemed like a good guy, and I really liked the crew. Well, it turns out this guy wanted me to work 56 hours a week. That's 64 hours hours a month over 160 hours. This alone should be criminal. But I moved out to the country to try and heal from a breakup and alot of other stuff that has happened in the last year and a half. There are not alot of jobs out here so I figured I'd just work through it, till I can figure something out. Well, I have been having some health issues…
Someone had this book at work.

When did this become the go to for management? Last I checked that's not my job or my responsibility… I'm not going to, I'm not in a management position, and your underpaying me so… Looks like your gonna be short tonight! Does anyone else get these managers that think you'll do their job for them? For clarification, I work in food service and am in no condition to be around food.
So I work at an escape room that hired me to work. I showed up for some training a few min early on Thursday only to be locked outside for 10 min in 3°C weather because the Manager forgot her keys at home. Fine, shit happens and I wasn't too upset. The same manager forgot to let me know when I work next so I ask the Owner (who I interviewed with) what time he wants me to come in. He told me 3Pm the next day. So I show up ON TIME and he says that I should be expected to show up 15 min early to set up. There was zero mention of this during our text message. And he tells me I can't show up late on the 2nd day and that I am fired. Wow.
Victim of the housing market
I don’t know what the hell to do guys. I’m a father of 3. I work full time and have a good job. Currently we live with my dad, but here at the end of summer we need to move out. I made the mistake of looking at rental homes and apartments last night. For a 2 bedroom 2 bathroom apartment, it takes about 40% of my income. Once I included utilities, well over 50%. I don’t know what to do. How the hell am I supposed to provide a home for my family in this current market? How are we supposed to make it? I’m so completely overwhelmed and disheartened. Is there any hope for my family financially? With our budget, it’s not even possible to be able to afford any of these places. I’m desperate for hope, but I honestly can’t find any.
