My son (18) worked at a fast food restaurant and was one of the better workers. He busted his butt to learn all the positions so he could fill in for anything, so much so that he taught the managers how to do things. Anyway last fall he caught wind of another place hiring for $3/hr more that what he was making. So he told them he was giving his two week notice unless they could match it. His shift manager asked the area manager if he could match it and she gave the approval. Fast forward to about a week and a half ago and he finds out that they never gave him the promised raise. He kept his composure and ask if they would honor that agreement and pay him the back pay and they said no. So he immediately gave his two week notice. At this point…
I’ve been told to “smile more”
As you know, people perceived by others as women are often expected to put on a theatre at work with overbearing attitude. I would like to understand whether it is a way of bullying, because if it is I won't tolerate it. I have just recently started a role in which I'm facing clients and I've been told by a supervisor/manager that I'm not smiling enough. As it is I'm already faking smiling a lot and it seems what is expected of me is to be annoying and out of touch by coming at clients with a stupidly cheerful attitude. Any advice?
How can you accept this work practices?
I'm a guy from EasterEurope(Romania). A lot of posts from this sub comes on the awarded section and every time I read it I'm shocked about the US working conditions and the “american dream”; let me give you some examples: .1. We have minimum 18days paid leave per year. (21for those who have a university degree) but usually is ~25-30. Legal holidays not included which are also paid. .2. Medical leave is PAID 75%-100% depending on the illness and how many days you will be incapacitated. .3. Usual working program is 40hours/5days per week but it's illegal to work more than 48/week or 12h/day. Also, regardless the job/possition/workingdays you need to have 2days-off/week. .4.Maternity leave: – from 6months pregnant you can chose to work 6hours instead of 8h and receive FULL salary – 2 years, YEARS, maternity leave after the child is born and is paid with 75%(with the option…
I was working a position where I started out as scheduling support, got made an executive assistant, then got stuck being put in charge of everything my boss did not want to do. HR, ordering, shipping and receiving, by the end of it I was doing 9 different jobs and working 80+ hours a week, while only being “allowed” to report 40. I tried to get a raise, from $25 an hour to $30, and he denied me saying “I wasn’t doing enough.” Because of asking my boss decided to let me go, and because his father in law needed a job he gave him only one of my duties and paid him 3 times what I was getting and then he outsourced the rest of my work to an even lower paid assistant. So I started noting down OSHA violations, and labor relations violations. I made sure I had…
Stop BEZOS act
I found it interesting that Bernie Sanders introduced a Stop BEZOS act. (Stop Bad Employers by Zeroing Out Subsidies Act). Checkout the text here – https://www.congress.gov/bill/115th-congress/senate-bill/3410/text
