I am trying to get a consensus of what this community feels is a fair wage and how that should be to differing jobs. I know the fight is for 'livable wage' but does that mean the median income for your area regardless of job? What would this community deem fair compensation for a fast food employee vs a brain surgeon for example? Could you also share details about your job and current wage situation, debt, general state/country etc, (without violating rule 8). Full disclosure is I have been in the military for the last 16 years and most of that has been deployed or out of touch with society as a whole, and soon I will be re-entering the civilian job market. I currently make ~67k base pay, ~90k with all the extra stipends for my current location. I average about 50-60 hours a week of work, but some…

The Artificial Scarcity of Jobs
The good, the bad, the ugly
The good: My wife and I both got a job paying decently so we can finally get stable right at the brink of being homeless The bad: We're behind on several bills so here is hoping they can give is some leeway time until those first pay checks hit! The ugly: I managed to get money for food and gas until we get our first paychecks (my mother loaned it but needs it back asap since shes not well off either) and now its going to the car which is starting to have major problems and is our only transportation to and from work. Even uglier: Unsure if the money will cover the diagnosis of the car let alone the repair Woof, fingers crossed, lets hope its something simple!
Any entrepreneurs here?
Just like the title says… I'm curious if anyone here owns their own business? I left years of experience in the medical field during the beginning of the pandemic because of how awful each of the employees were treated and the corruption I saw (especially when it came to the PPP loans). I decided I couldn't work in the medical field any longer… Eventually I came to the realization that no one is ever going to care about the well being of my family like I will. I'm done working for slave wages to make other people rich. Anyone else?
(23 Male) Two months ago I received employee of the year honors for my work in 2021. I was so happy to receive the honor since I went above and beyond for my company. Covering peoples behinds on projects to also doing the majority of their work. I really took the bull by the horns and put myself out there to be a leader and I was glad that I was recognized. Im also at a job that Ive dreamt about since I was little. Weeks roll by after being given the honor, coworkers from my department were given promotions to higher paid rolls. Rolls that I thought I was a for sure shoe in for. Theres been 4 promotions in total of coworkers that I completely blew out of the water that received the thumbs up. Im absolutely devastated that all my work was for nothing but a stupid…
Am I getting scammed?
I'm about to graduate soon with a finance degree. I applied for a part time coordinator job and about a week later the organization reached out to me and offered an interview for an executive/finance assistant position (it's a small NPO in a small town). They told me that I would be working as an executive assistant for 15 h/week for $22/h and as a finance assistant for 20 h/week for $24/h. I asked if this is a full time position and they said yes with a 1 year contract but to me it really seems like two part time job… I found it very weird that there are two diff wages for “1 full time” position. I never seen a job like this. Am I getting scammed by this NPO?
Hi guys, I work in the semi-higher end retail environment as an assistant manager. Currently, I make $22/hr full time with a quarterly bonus of $700-$1,500 and about 3 weeks of PTO per year. I was just contacted asking about my interest and to set up an interview for a store manager role at a different company. The role is about what I make $45k, but it is salaried and the hours are slightly higher. There is a commission that will boost my pay to about $55k starting with the potential for 65k based on store performance, but I'd have only 2 weeks PTO. To me, it doesn't seem like enough to get me to take on the extra responsibility, hours, lower PTO, etc. I also quite like my job for the time that I'm still in retail and I plan to more into the IT field in less than…
Kill The God of Work & All His Clergy
I've been on SSDI since 2017. Recently I attempted to return to work and after about a month my symptoms started getting worse and I asked for either some time off or to reduce to part-time hours so I could deal with the situation. I was fired on the spot. Boss tried to offer to bring me back on at a lower wage and a demotion. I told him none of this is legal and I wasn't interested in his offers. I'm not sure if I ever want to return to work. I find the way disabled people are treated in this country despicable. Even at $20/hr (my old salary), I have a hard time affording all of the public benefits I'm losing by returning to work, and these jobs require you to do highly monotonous work where you're not really learning anything while inflation destroys our buying power. What…
