I work for a large bank and we were all strongly encouraged to take a survey full of hypothetical situations. Eg. You receive an increase in company HSA contribution but have a diminished company contribution to your 401k and vice versa. A few questions were odd in that you either keep a perk or lose a perk, which do you prefer. I assume there will be a net loss for us and I don't assume these surveys will make the ultimate decisions, but anyone else seeing something similar?

I started working in a labor collective
So I hang gutters and do other home exterior work (siding, fascia, soffit etc) I was sub contracting for a national corp that basically couldn’t manage to get their shit together when it came to accurately bidding and effectively scheduling work. I was talking to some other contractors and we said fuck em and went out on our own this season. Basically we set it up so we are independent contractors that work together. No bosses, we all have kids so we cover for each other when stuff comes up, pay is split fairly evenly with some considerations given based on the heavier equipment that’s owned. We are planning on taking two- three months off over the winter (it’s cold up here) which means I’m making around $63,000 in 42 weeks. This is basically the best job I’ve ever had. I worked as a legal assistant with a lawyer who was almost always aggressive and made degrading comments towards me. I am not the most thick skinned so I would more often then not end up crying in the bathroom. It was pretty bad. I was promised my paycheck today but the lawyer claimed that she legally doesn't have to pay me until the end of the month. For context I have no union, no access to HR and there was no contract for my position – I am also 18 years old and the lawyer is 50 so the age difference seems to give her a power trip. It was frustrating arguing with her over money that I worked and dealt with her BS for because, like I said, without a contract, I have no way of guaranteeing that I will be paid.
