Does anyone else hate work get-togethers or is it just me? 4 or 5 times a year all my coworkers (I'm the only male in a predominantly female profession) have a party and expect everyone to be there because it's during business hours. Since it's a small company of only 15 employees, it is hard to skip because everyone knows everyone. They use the excuse that it is mandatory because they have it during work hours. I can't stand going to them because it's just an excuse to bullshit around for a couple hours and not get any work done. Anyway is this a common thing everywhere or is it specific to the area here where I live?

I’ve felt absolutely crazy my whole life because of my inability to derive pleasure from work, and I don’t understand how anyone else possibly could. When people tell me that trey love their work, I assume that they’re either lying to me, or to themselves. I can certainly understand getting a sense of pleasure and/or satisfaction from growing and learning as a person. God knows it’s what brings me my greatest pleasure. I enjoyed school. It wasn’t always super fun or what I wanted to do in that moment, but the feeling of accomplishment and personal growth it offered was generally fulfilling to me, and I guess that’s the feeling you’re supposed to get from work. Throwaway account. I'm in Physiotherapy (which my company knew about). Last week I spoke with the manager and told her my Doctor recommended I cut back my hours a bit and work 4 shifts a week instead of 5. She told me she could do it and I was happy with that. At the end of my shift as I was leaving she told me she looked at the schedule and couldn't cover one shift a week. So I told her, “What if I quit? Then you'd have to cover 5 shifts a week.” “You want to quit, go ahead” she said to me. So I told her “Okay I quit, thank you.” And I took my stuff and left. So now they can't cover 1 shift a week, but the manager told me to go ahead and quit and now she has to cover 5 shifts a week. When…

A bit of background, my manager is a self proclaimed “eccentric” or regularly makes inappropriate comments to staff and chalks it up to being “a bit of a character”. Yesterday at lunch, he started picking on a new young female colleague. He was asking her if she was going to see her boyfriend later and “does he know that you flirt with your manager”. Now he has made comments like this to her before, her face goes red and she has to leave the room with embarrassment. She has expressed to me that it's her first “proper” job and she doesn't want to kick up a fuss etc. Yesterday when she had to leave the canteen with embarassment again I saw red and said something along the lines of “cop the fuck on to yourself and stop picking on your own fucking staff”. Just having a catch up a couple of days ago with my boss and he just casually mentioned how we are in a good place staffing-wise since pretty much all of my team is asking for more hours. It is funny how this all “pEoplE dONt WaNt tO wOrK” crowd what they really mean is that they no longer have people begging for hours. We were understaffed two weeks ago and now that we have the staff we cannot give them enough hours. Can't wait for one or two people to leave because of not getting enough hours again

My boss gave me a petty raise, said “business is down”. He just got a new Bentley and Range Rover. I love it here.
