Bad Boss or Overreacting?
Apologies in advance for mobile formatting. I work a regular retail job at a very small, locally owned store. Employee count is maybe 5 maximum including the owner. Recently, I’ve been feeling really alienated and disliked in my work environment. I don’t mean anyone is harassing me, more like pretending I don’t exist unless it’s to work. For example, the owner of the store frequently chats with and compliments the managers, but when I do something over the expectations or even when I’m in the store he seems to have nothing to say to me other than instructions on whatever he’s dropping off. It felt like usual boss behavior until I saw a job listing about us hiring (we are, not for my job) and he included pictures of everyone that works behind the counter EXCEPT me. Posting this on a burner The owner of a store that I just started working at is actively discouraging employees to NOT discuss wages. What is the best course of action that I can take reprimand this issue legally and alert my coworkers about their rights? Extreme emphasis on legal action.
As a tid of backstory I have worked for this place in the past. Took a break and returned recently, I had a nice interview and discussed pay. Received a call saying I was hired and was pretty content as I needed this second job again, unfortunately. Fast forward to my predicament, I received my schedule but cannot clock in or out, as I haven't been placed into their system,(reactivated i should say.. and they had two whole weeks!) This goes on for two shifts, after which I am placed in the system and now have reliable time clocks, fast forward a day. I am pulled aside by the manager I interviewed with and bring up my pay, firstly I was shushed as we don't discuss pay around other employees (yikes), he then took me, and when we were fully out of earshot let me know I was making about…
I work in a department that handles sensitive info for our customers. I see peoples banking info socials etc… and not even paid as much as some of the people in the same company not handling that info. Not paid a livable wage. Not paid equal despite being the most productive member of my team. Not heard when we bring up product issues that make people angry. Can’t even qualify for monthly bonus program because our department handles more upset customers and bonuses are based on customer satisfaction surveys…. I am feeling beyond defeated and now looking for new wfh jobs in my area.
