About 6 months ago I was in contact with a recruiter for a job but there wasn’t anything he was offering I was interested in and he told me he would keep me in the system. Today, I get a phone call from this same guy, which I ignore since I already have a job. And once the call ends, immediately after, he calls again! This happens one last time before I get a voicemail. And then I get a text with the job offer. And then I got 3 (!) emails with the job offer and description. But in none of them is a wage mentioned. At that point I’m pissed at the harassment and respond to one of him emails and tell him I don’t appreciate all the calls, that it’s harassment and nowhere is pay mentioned so I’m not interested and to remove me from his call…
Month: May 2022
I do not know what the point is
Hey guys, I started a new job today, basically a glorified call centre, but it’s fine. The pay isn’t great but it’s fine. The hours aren’t great but it’s fine. It’s 5 days a week. Minimal holiday and it’s all eh. But I’m just kinda hopeless? Like is this what my life is meant to be? I became unemployed in January and only applied for jobs I knew would be good for my soul and nothing came from it for months. Once I applied for unemployment benefit last month I suddenly got the most menial roles taking an interest because I need to pay the bills now. I don’t know what I’m trying to achieve with this post but there was a moment during my training today where I realised what my job is going to be and I genuinely thought about and considered going home and un-aliving myself this…
As inflation rises, and if a antigovernmental sentiment becomes more widespread would you take part in a revolution, or would you want “peaceful reform” or riots?
So I am employed by a contracting company that's basically used as a way for other companies to hire us as contractors rather than employees. My actual job hasn't been asking me to come in as often lately so I'm…very broke. I asked my employer if I can use sick pay as extra money and they said that should be fine, so I'm getting 20 hours of sick pay (which is all the hours I currently have). It's like on one hand I'm relieved that I at least have that as an emergency option, but also it sucks that I have to use my sick pay — 1 hour earned with every 30 hours worked — just to pay my bills. I should not have to do that. First of all I should be able to depend on my job to provide a living wage, and I should have PTO…
Another Stupid Interview!
I have an interview for a analytics job. The person interviewing me goes, “can I see all of the work you have done for your current employer”. I said “I signed a NDA with them I cannot do that.” He then goes,” I just had the cutest young girl from college in here. She shared all of her information with me.” I then said do you have Saas Ssis Sas system. The interview goes I have no idea what you are talking about. I ended the interview.
Too many companies have a culture where blame gets passed down and down until it reaches the lowest paid. These people are often dealing with customers on the front line and so get the blame for any operational mistakes or perceived poor service, even though often they don’t have the time, support or systems to deliver properly. If you must complain, because a company has really done you wrong, then keep your complaint focused on the company and their policies or systems. You can even say “Advisor was really helpful but advised that they were unable to action my request because of policy [X].” Similarly, you may often be asked to fill a survey in after contacting a company. Bear in mind these are often used to track employee performance. So if you’re angry because you had to wait an hour on hold and then the agent couldn’t help you,…
Basically the title, fully remote to fully in office for +15%, non negotiable. Assume the commute is a 20 min drive for the sake of argument. I asked a similar question a while ago but thought it would help if modified it, just to get an idea of if +15% is “worth it”
No holiday pay, no holiday work
At work we were talking about how every should get time and a half for holidays. Someone we work with said they used to get holiday pay but not anymore. He said they worked a holiday and the morning of the holiday they were told they will not receive holiday pay anymore. Since then the worker refused to work on holidays. This is an amusement type place when working Memorial Day sucks. It is so crowded and a pain in the butt. The guy said “No holiday pay no holiday work.” We all died laughing. We decided we weren’t going to sign up for Memorial Day weekend. The boss tried scheduling people and we said we had plans already and wanted holiday pay. He said no. He was then so short staffed he offered holiday pay. He is still short staffed. Time and a half isn’t enough to cancel plans.…
