What to look for when job searching?

I’m recently looking for a new job after being fired in early January and finally getting my health all in order by late May to early June. This is really the first time I have been seeking employment, previous jobs I managed to get hired with very little stores. What are things to keep an eye on for? What could be red flags while looking through Indeed and Glassdoor? Any advice is appreciated!

Bereavement pay, WA state

Does anyone in WA state have information regarding bereavement pay requirements? Washington state legislation says employees are entitled to 3 days of bereavement pay, but L&I website states that employers are not required to provide any bereavement pay. These two clearly contradict each other and I can't afford to not work right now, so trying to see if I can get at least a few days of pay. Thanks for your help in advance. WA state legislation: https://apps.leg.wa.gov/wac/default.aspx?cite=357-31-250 WA state L&I (labor and industries): https://www.lni.wa.gov/workers-rights/leave/holiday-vacation-bereavement-leave#:~:text=Washington%20State%20does%20not%20require,does%20not%20enforce%20these%20agreements.

worse interviews ever

so it’s Saturday, yesterday I had 3 interviews with the same company, each email invitation had typos, wrong time sets, and all the details were on a single line going horizontal across the message (you had to scroll left to read the message) And I met the CEO yesterday in the last interview, he said they do 8 figures a year and build new products every month and pump them up to multi figures before selling them. Kind of like a brand start up and sell off once successful thing. My issue is, if this place (and others) are this shitty when it comes to employing, what the fuck are we doing here??? Was invited to 3 interview times today, 2,3, and 5 pm, two after the start time of the meeting, one I was waiting 15 minutes in before I hung up because I kind of value my time….…

Why do companies hire management consultants? To tell them stuff like this.

The study found that feeling recognized more positively impacts employee engagement, productivity, and advocacy than a fair salary. Right….I often hear people say… “You should come work at my company. You won't earn enough to pay rent, but DAMN our employee of the quarter program is stellar.” Good job “management consultants” for enabling low wages in America.

I don’t think a company saying “we’re like a family here” is a big deal.

Popular wisdom says it's a big red flag when a company says they're like a family, but I disagree. I don't think it's alarming or worth attention, I think it's just background noise. Nobody really means it, and nobody thinks about it, it's just a collection of nice-sounding words that we're all supposed to say. If there's any emotion behind it, it's the same cursory emotion that goes into buying a wedding card that says “heartfelt congratulations” for someone you barely know. Thus ends my shower thought on this subject.

Government contractor

Long story short. I work for a company with close (probably ilegal) ties to the client (government/fed). I’ve been complaining about my bosses communication issues and after a year. I was given a performance review and they wrote me up for my failure to communicate. It’s almost funny how fucked up they turned it around. I also got dinged for wearing T-shirt’s that the company made us buy to wear at work. Apparently I was suppose to use them as undershirts for my polos. They why have logos and American flags on the sleeves?!! It’s total work retaliation and it’s toxic. I need to leave. But it’s been hard to find something else.

A sunhat and sunscreen

You are me. You work at a state university’s farm as a summer intern. You make $10/hour. Sunscreen and a sunhat cost $30. You weed on your hands and knees for 3 hours in the 90 degree heat with the sun beating down just to buy these 2 things that your 400 million dollar budget employer should’ve provided on the first day.

Research generally indicates that people cope with working long hours by it taking an increasing hit on their mental health over time, and as hours and workload increase. Worsening physical health, despondency, feeling suicidal and shorter life expectancy are common reactions.

Wealthier people tend to be greedy sociopaths and have others do much of the more arduous and mundane work for them. They then present themselves as working long hours by contributing their delusional brilliance, by which they mean wielding power, money and control over a workforce with little autonomy.
