A true democracy where the people have equal say in matters, not just electing representatives to make choices for us… how hard would it be to make a platform or an app that you log into to vote on bills being passed. The general public would be calling the shots.
How corporations will win; USA edition
Corporations are buying up all of the housing. Soon housing will be offered as a perk of employment, albeit your salary will be lowered by the price of the mortgage plus 10-25%. Now, just like health insurance, shelter will be tied to employment. “Choose” not to work? “Choose” not to have a roof over your head. “Choose” not to be able to receive health care. What have we become?
I just call it the income-housing gap but I’m not sure if there’a a particular name for it. The average salary in 1970 was $9870 The average home price in 1970 was $17,000 That means a person earned about 58% of their homes value, which explains why people were about to buy houses back then; they could probably even put 50% down if they really saved up. Now compare that to today The average salary in 2022 is $63,214 The average home price in 2022 is $429,000 That salary is only 14% of the price it takes to purchase a home in the US. 14%! How the hell did we let this get so out of control?!
The title basically says it all. Her job has a combination of “vacation days” which need prior approval and a small number of “PTO” days which, as she was told from day one, can be taken as needed anytime for personal reasons. Then earlier this year she got a new supervisor. We'll call them Karen. Come this past Monday, she was feeling really unwell, so she took a PTO day to recuperate. Today she was scolded for taking PTO day “without at least 5 days heads up” and “for taking time off without thinking of the company's needs when there is still work to be done”. This rubbed me the wrong way, so here to rant. There will ALWAYS be more work, that's why the position exists! You may have gotten to your position, Karen, by neglecting your personal well being and charging ahead for “the company” at all cost,…
I hate it here I received a hospital bill that was $2000+ and my insurance only covered a small fraction of it and im stressed tf out. I guess thats what I get for being poor. Our lives really matter this little to our “leaders”. Like this shit is very dystopian.
Should I Move Out of America?
I'm a dual citizen in Italy and America and I fantasize about moving to Italy (or elsewhere in the EU) all the time. Are there any Italians/Europeans here that have any insight regarding cost of living, work life balance, housing, education and medical care? Is it a “grass is greener” scenario or is it actually better?
