First interview was for a position as a housekeeper at a casino. I applied a week ago, got an email from their hiring office about scheduling a phone interview, I answered back with my phone number and time/date that worked and they confirmed they would be in touch then. The time came and went this morning (10:20AM), no phone call. I checked and provided all the correct information. I emailed them regarding why they hadn’t called and if we could reschedule and was met with the reply that, “We are sorry, the position has been filled”. Second interview was for a clerk at a local gas station chain. Interview was for 11:00AM, via Indeed, video call interview. I get into the call at 10:55AM, make sure it’s working, and sit and wait for half an hour. The screen just said, “Please wait for your interviewer to arrive”. Unsure what happened…

There seems to be a huge divide between blue/white-collar workers. Each think of themselves as better than the other in certain ways and the attitude plays out in their interactions. But really it is such a pointless division when you consider that both are working for someone else's profits and have zero ownership of the product of their labor. I think both groups of workers have been isolated and fed lies about the other group through media, even though both are essential for a functioning economy. Why do they seem to hate each other and not their bosses/business owners? The blue-collar worker sees the white-collar one as lazy and entitled, while the latter sees the former as uneducated and replaceable, but both are just trying to survive the rat race in their own ways. Both are working class. If these groups were united, just imagine what they could accomplish.

For context, I came from a really shitty and toxic company. My last boss was a total nightmare. I was on medical leave for depression when I interviewed for my current job. My boss saw something special in me and hired me. We just found out this week that he had passed away, we don’t know any details. But it was just so sudden. He really was a great person and a great leader. He had our backs and treated us like we were on the same level. I intended to stay there as long as I needed to, to give myself time to heal from the past. It isn’t the best paying job, but it was worth it to me to be treated so well. He told me that the sky was my limit and he would absolutely support me in whatever I wanted to do and would help…

I worked at a job early in my career. To be fair, it was a good job and the boss/owner was decent. I got a great opportunity that paid $25K more per year (or about $2,000 more per month). So, I gave my two weeks' notice. Boss was shocked and demanded I give at least one month's notice. My new job would have been fine with that, but it would have cost me the pay difference for those two weeks (a little over $1,000 gross). I told my old boss I would stay if he would make up the salary difference for the notice period. He looked at me like I had three heads. The idea of screwing him over was offensive to him, but the idea of screwing me out of money totally and completely made sense to him.

I'm just getting a little tired of people who work for anonymous big box store or Noname corporation complain/vent about their shitty employers without NAMIMG them. We can't boycott them if we don't know who they are. Their name doesn't get walked through the mud until we know who they are. We can't kick them in the teeth and financially ruin them unless we KNOW WHO THEY ARE!!!! Out these assholes. Make them suffer. Make it impossible for them to continue treating people this way. Not just you….all people. All people deserve to have dignity at work, and when you don't out them, they will continue to get away with it.

I had a virtual interview last week, we talked for about 45 minutes. When it came to salary I gave them a range based on what the market is paying, plus experience and qualifications. Hiring manager mentioned it was right on target and had no issues with it. She said HR would reach out to me. Fast forward to today and the HR rep that couldn’t make the first interview mentioned a starting pay 15-20k less than what we had previously landed on, I mentioned that the hiring manager and I had already agreed to a different number. I could understand the confusion seeing as she was not in the first interview, so she said she would talk to the hiring manager and give me a call back.
