So I've been working at this Union workshop for just over three years, the pay is better than 85% of jobs in the area so I really enjoy this job. I've worked myself up to be a CNC operator, but the company has constantly had issues with paychecks. When I started out, we had raises at 6, 12, 18 months. Each time I hit those raises I didn't get my raise on my paycheck and they retroactively paid it back to me the next paycheck. When I started I just just so happy about the job I didn't complain much, I mean they fixed the issue and the union contract gives them some leeway in time to fix any payment issues. Then I went from packaging the Fireplaces we made, to being a CNC operator making the sheet metal into the parts to build the Fireplaces. Well, when I got…

Use of AI for work compliance
Work has become hell since these AI bots are deployed to control employees, there’s no way out, you can’t defeat the greedy system. these bots are made to control every working second of your life. These bots are making sure you work at 200% of your efficiency and serve their masters without them micromanaging you much. You can’t defeat the numbers and statistics these bots are saving, they’ll pull out these records during increments and justify meagre increment because you took 1 min of extra break that day
Great quote I heard the other night…

Is Retirement Still Achievable?
For the second time in a row, my team has been told that we are unable to leave early due to the amount of work to do. Your lack of staffing and preparation is not my problem. It's so frustrating. Edit: I understand that this is a first world problem lol but that doesn't make it any less frustrating
I feel like garbage.
I lost my job two months ago as a design apprentice at an automotive parts manufacturer. I signed a contract to work there right when I got out of highschool for 3 years. The deal was that they were supposed to pay for all my college (their choice of college) and work an 8 hour shift on the days that I didn't have school. Sounded pretty good at the time They promised to train me how to be a designer, then COVID hit and they furloughed me for 4 months, which is basically getting laid off but you don't have to re-apply. I was 18 at the time so I had no idea how unemployment worked and it took two months for me to start getting any checks. I couldn't afford to pay for my car or insurance because of not having any money for like 3 months so my…
To preface; I have been doing licensed security for over 6 years. Armed, unarmed cannabis, mental health, hospitals, basically anything you can do in a Guard uniform I've done it. I've been licensed in both TX and CA. And I see the same issues in both states. First, the security industry is legally allowed to do some things that other industries aren't. You aren't legally required to give a lunch break or 10 minute breaks. If a company does, it's out of pragmatism not obligation. There are legal exemptions for security guards. We work long hours because of high turn over and the necessity for many sites to have 24/7 coverage. Second, it's mostly contract work. You typically work for a company who has a contract with the client site. In part this is due to licensing restrictions, but contractors also allow clients to pull Guards off post with little…
I don’t think this is right?
A while back I had thrown up at work on my break. (I operate machines at a plant that makes food) I was given a rapid Covid test and when it came out negative they told me I can go back onto the floor or I can leave and get an occurrence. I ended up taking an occurrence cause uh…I threw up?? Like I can’t stop thinking about this. After a certain amount of occurrences you get walked out. It doesn’t seem right to me at all that they’d reprimand me for getting sick at work and wanting to go home. I’m thinking of appealing it but I think higher up might see it the same? Idk. Would just appreciate others input. I think back to it a lot because it seems so absurd.
