a second job

I'm so exhausted of all this job and political drama going on. I am a Retail Store manager and I'm applying for a second job. I tried to take out my 401K, but I would have ended up with pennies against all the fees and penalties I'd receive. I just couldn't do that. I can't. Ridiculous!! I was going to sell my shares of stock but again, I can't be that guy to my group who is trying to prove a point with complete market manipulation. So, A second job is my only option, and I will work a job I don't want to, to get where I need to go in this world and some people need to learn that. I'm about to be homeless, so trying to be an adult is just not working for me it seems. I have more debt growing daily and boss states it…

Sincerely thinking about starting my own business

I've always wanted to start my own business, and have been working to gather money to be able to do so, I'm still young (23M). I still don't have nearly enough (1k in bank) due to several personal issues during this year. I have a steady job where I've always been felt welcome and the environment is great, salary is not the best but it's the worst either, can do pretty much what I want and still save some every month. Recently though, something happenned that's making me consider leaving my job asap… but have been struggling to see where to. Let's start from the begginning: In December, I told HR I was unhappy there, as I was doing pretty much the same thing every single day, and I get bored quick. The HR manager is someone I really look up to, is really humane and very friendly. I asked…

Experiences of absurd job interviews, with questions or tests that have nothing to do with the job

Hello ! Don't know if this is appropriate and if it fits here, I'll let de mods decide. Basically I'm beginning to work on a short film project I've been thinking about for a long time now (I'm an editor and this would be my first project as a writer/director). It would be basically about the arbitrarity of our current work environnement, and more precisely about the violence you face daily when you're simply trying to find a job. One of the main sequences of the film would be an absurd interview for an intership, with questions and “tests” that have absolutely nothing to do with the job description. Personnaly I vividly remember when I was trying to get my first job as an assistant editor, having to pitch an concept for a reality-TV show (for a network that produces absolutely no reality-TV shows and will probably never do…). I…

What’s your work background?

I notice a lot of people working minimum wage jobs for years on end? What’s your work background? I’m curious as I worked minimum wage jobs in the past but was able to get much better roles after performing well. What’s stopping you guys from getting better jobs? Especially over the last year or so when the job market was hot.

Time to find another job?

I have been working at a company for a little over a year. After about 6 months, I asked for more responsibility and my manager gave me a bunch of more things to do since I was efficient with my time and was able to take on more. I loved my job. I told them it would be beneficial to add in a second person to assist me with the small redundant tasks so I could focus on the bigger things. They happily did- but they never stuck around. They were awful and after 3 months every time, they would start getting lazy and I ended up doing the job of two people since we were short a person. I became increasingly stressed and overworked. I stayed behind to help, came in early, never complained.I stopped taking breaks to increase productivity at work so I wouldn’t fall behind. I had my…
