So, my throwaway account to limit hurt feelings. I had myself an office drone job. I spent my days using different software to do design work for construction. I have a trade background, plenty of years on the tools that gavee piles of practical knowledge that made it easy for me to design. Went back to school to get an office job and save my body some abuse. My reviews were nothing but amazing. I brought up inflation at my annual review, my boss told me that the annual books were done soon, and my raise was coming. Less than 3%. So I brushed up the resume, and reposted it to the job sites. I applied to a few roles, but got contacted by a company that I didn't think that I would qualify for. The interview went great, and the interviewer said that they have a strong belief in…
Basically, my coworker is stealing my work and trying to get credit thinking I won’t realise. I politely ask why as it confuses my work flow and he stutters and can’t answer. I immediately emailed our manager for a 1:1 and kept my reason short. My manager said yes but said shouldn’t we include (said problematic coworker name)? I am taken aback as 1:1’s are usually private or am I wrong? I wasn’t going to complain but I need to start communicating this issue to my manager asap, however I don’t want that coworker there! I think my explanation left my manager wondering if it was just about the work that’s why he suggested this, but what I haven’t mentioned is the issue I ran into with said coworker. Keep in mind my other coworker who I work with as well let out that she had or has the same…
Ok so just ranting Had an interview with a local non profit focused on sustainability that requires a lot of manual labor. I will never being attending an interview again without asking the wage beforehand. Listing said “competitive wage”, so I mistakenly confused that with “living wage”. This job was in the county next to mine so I would be commuting 30 min to get there. This county has multiple universities, private schools, more industry, and a higher living wage at over $19 hr while where I live it’s a bit above $16. The interview was ok, I was clearly super overqualified but I really needed a job asap so I was exploring all options. We talked for a while and the format was pretty corny, asking me tons of generic questions off a list that seemed redundant and excessive. Finally the interviewer wrapped it up and said she thought…
Most of my colleagues are remote in other cities, including my bosses. My company supports working at home, and hired 100%-remote people over the pandemic. We’ve been acquired, and the parent company isn’t as supportive. Months ago, I was among some people asked to return to the local office. I’m supposed to be doing a hybrid of 3 office-2 home. I don’t go. I prefer working at home for many common reasons, and I successfully did it through the pandemic, with high performance ratings. Because the company is mostly remote, if I do go in, I’m sitting alone, amongst many empty cubes. They didn’t do a great job of giving us reasons to go in (“culture”), and there was no mention of consequences of not doing it. I’ve been so curious how it would catch up with me. This week, our division leader, who is based in another city than…
I asked nicely and was like “i don’t want the quality of my work to decline but also could see myself falling behind unless I work the extra hours, so can I get approved for overtime in advance?” To which he replied “I don’t think it will be necessary” like okay asshole you try genotyping all the mouse pup of every postdoc (5) before their weaning date along with feeding all of our mice. If this is what work in research I like no thnx lmao. Anywho guess who will be clocking out late every day this week? I also decided to do a quick s grocery trip and had wine with lunch. I must have good breaks for the quality of work to not suffer! Im gonna get overtime whether u like it or not; fuck u Dr L. He can’t even fire me bc I’m already doing like…
One foot out the door
So I'm currently waiting for a background check to clear (which I have no reason to suspect that it won't) and if all goes well, I'll be putting in my 2 weeks notice on August 8th at my current job. I hadn't said anything to my boss or anyone else for that matter, just out of concern for my own mental health and job security. I work in home maintenance and we have 11 properties to manage. My old boss was great, but he's since retired. So now, its just me and my new boss, who used to just be my coworker.. that's it. Just the two of us. That's the maintenance crew. He's is a major douche. I get 90% of the workload, 100% of the shittier jobs get doesn't want to do, and he couldn't care less about my well being. My hours have gotten longer and longer…
So that’s obviously bad, any ideas about whether it’s just crummy-bad or illegal-bad? Fwiw they are going to pay me, but not for another month and tbh I’m struggling to trust their word at this point.
Until Mid-January, I was quite okay with my job. However, our boss decided to reduce our bonus in the middle of a crazy inflation. The boss was actively lying to us saying that the company doesn't make lots of profit while the CEO openly said that 2021 was one of the best years for the company. Besides, my apartment is fucking corrupt. I'm not talking about sugarcoating things, they are straight up selling product A but are delivering product B, which has completely different characteristics. When I asked my team lead about a raise, he said that I'm already earning TOO MUCH. Can you believe that? So I sent my CV to a couple of companies and got two job offers within about one month, one with a raise of 45 percent, one with 48 percent. My coworkers were talking about those things during lunch but weren't too bothered. I…
Someone ain’t happy
Apparently an employee was a bit upset.
