I’ve worked for my boss at a small art production company for 9.5 years. There have been many many issues and I’ve wanted to quit multiple times. I’ve made her product better in the time that I have been there, but haven’t been happy about working there for years. Just felt stuck. Made the decision to go back to grad school this fall. I need to pursue a career where I am doing what I love and have opportunity to grow and have benefits. My boss started hiring new people early in the year, one of the girls who ended up working out started back in February. Another was hired back in June. Several didn’t work out in the span of that time because my boss would pressure them and not give them a chance to learn. The newest girl just quit over an issue she had with my boss…
So the new weeks schedule came out today and my employer scheduled my daughter for 72 hours, 51 of which are without a break. When she complained about it and asked how that will be possible he said they'd find someone else to do it if she can't. They refuse to acknowledge overtime laws in New Jersey and insist that because the shifts are for three separate departments it's alright. She's afraid to not work the shifts because they'll fire her but it's impossible. It's 6am to 2 pm serving. 2:01pm to 9pm at front desk. 9:01 pm to 5:59 am overnight security. Repeat for 2 1/2 days, have a 4 hour break then work a double.
TLDR: Employer discriminating against me, employer abusing special needs children, and my emotions are clouding my judgment and ability to effectively communicate. For the past 15 months I have been fighting for basic rights to be able to be in the workplace and have a disability. My boss has repeatedly called me out for being disabled and promising not to follow my accommodation. In fact, she normally mocked me for my disability, she Weaponized it against me. And it’s a situation where everything I say is a lie, and despite that I’m allowed to record in my state, the employer told me that I was not allowed to record, even for my safety. Part of the reason for this response is not only justify that I have been discriminated against, but also to expose my employer for significant amount of child abuse, and how it relates back to me being…
If you post a text convo showing an argument with a manager where you then quit, please try to include the bosses' response to your quitting. Its satisfying seeing that you quit, but the suffering and inconvenience the boss faces is the moment blow my load moment. I want to see how upset the boss gets, so please include any angry responses they give post quitting.
Are Unions All Good?
Serious question: are all aspects of unions positive for the worker? I’ve read of union pension and health/welfare plans in critical status because of mismanaged funds – is this something potential union workers would be concerned about?
I was lucky enough to find a high paying job, which was super easy going where I made some amazing friends and met some incredible people. Throughout the contract we were all saying how we shouldn’t get used to any of this because this just wasn’t real life. It was a government project so the pay was good, the work was super easy going, the hours were great and you were basically speaking to HR as equals because they work and are employed by the government. They don’t work for a private employer and HR has to protect the government’s image not just the highest ranking person there. It was truly the jackpot and I wish it went on forever. It was still work, and sometimes just sometimes super hard work like super crazy fast paced with a lot of incompetence managing it all but usually not really busy. I’ve…
If there was like a challenge
Like walk naked down the street if the top 5 most dangerous spots on earth and you get early retirement would you take it? I think I would to be honest.
