I hear some people say that the minimum wage should be $0 because you aren’t guaranteeing value to a company, but they are guaranteeing lost value to you and additional risks, in some form. With these minimum wage jobs, they are in person jobs, meaning you are risking your life and health everyday just by coming into work. You could die in a car crash or get seriously injured while driving in. Is your company going to compensate you because you had a collision coming into work? Something that wouldn’t have happened otherwise? You may have an unhygienic coworker and as a result, you get Covid and your lung collapses. Will your job compensate you the $500k it’s going to close in order to get treated because this was a result of their job? Of course not. Oddly enough the thought of holding a company accountable doesn’t cross many people’s…

A daily meditation
Dodged a bullet here
I was meant to start a job in a bar tomorrow (Monday), so I msged the owner yesterday morning (Saturday) as he still hadn't published the roster yet. He called me to ask if the following shifts were ok and the finishing times on the roster weren't set in stone. I could get sent home early or stay later, depending on the night and with no prior warning. There are the shifts: Monday – 4.30pm to 9pm Tuesday – 4.30pm to 9pm Thursday – 4pm to 9pm Saturday – 4pm to 9pm He's calling me bitter because I told him I didn't want split days off, or short shifts where I got sent home early outta the blue. Also that I can'always just stay late. I like to know when I'm working and what hours as I gotta budget or plan my life. I decided this morning (Sunday) that this…
I left the worst job of my life about 9 months ago and left a scathing review of the company on Indeed (which is where they post all their job postings). I saw something on this sub that made me wonder if they were still hiring on that platform. After a quick search, I saw two postings for positions at the company, but my review wasn't there. And then I realized they had made a different account and added “inc.” at the end. So I copied and pasted my review to the new company account. It's starting to feel a little sad that I'm still keeping tabs on them after 9 months, but I can't help it. I don't want anyone to go through what I did there. Good luck hiring, you abusive, mean, and manipulative company!
Hello, I decided to take a position with a new company, and gave my manager two weeks notice. Shortly after our phone conversation, he called me back and told me to not worry about the two weeks and that today would be my last day. I do have a position lined up with a new company, but I do not start for another two weeks (because I was trying to do the right thing with this existing job). Am I eligible for unemployment benefits since they did not take me up on my two weeks notice?
I’m in Georgia and laws differ by state. I have covid and should probably be working on a brief due Monday but I see some common mistakes on here. Happy to answer questions. This is for folks in US only, sry. Some common issues: Don’t answer texts or calls on your days off. If you don’t know they’re trying to reach you, you can’t be insubordinate. Get a copy of the employee handbook and know the rules. If you get fired for something that isn’t clearly in the handbook, you win your unemployment case. If there is no handbook, 🥳. In an UE case, the employer has the burden to prove you were fired for cause. Also, PTO rules in the handbook may result in an enforceable contract. Not always but it’s possible. Take a picture of the workers comp panel of physicians. If there is no posted panel, DO…
I really wanna quit my job. Its very far away and i dont really like it anymore. In about 2 months will i have worked there for atleast a year and i wanna secure another job before i leave my current one but i dont really like my boss. Nor do i think he likes me even tho i accepted the contract 2 months ago to become a full time employee. If the new company asks if there is someone they could call should it be good enough with a coworker ? I will atleast work there until i have an unemployment insurance. I think that after the winterbreak will i quit. This new place is only 10 min walk from my home and i can work night shifts which i really like because iam more of a night person. TLDR: Whats the best way to have someone from your…
