I'm a 26 year old unemployed man living in a rural area in North America where the only jobs are 9-12 hour shifts, I've tried to suck it up and deal with a long shift job but within a year my mental state was brought low enough that I was suicidal and tried. I've been searching and searching and I am to the point of near daily panic attacks over having nothing to show for my age and no income. Since my last job close to 5 years ago I've had a total of 2 interviews. I need help, I need advice. The description for the community says that this is a place for help with work and job struggles, well I am definitely struggling.

We Took a Wrong Turn Somewhere
A caveman would be very disappointed if they found out that we automated the production of the things we need to live and somehow still end up spending so much of our lives at work. We should find ways to make the caveman proud
A little over a month ago, I got a new job at a grocery store. The store looks like it’s going to close down soon (empty shelves etc…) and all my colleagues say that they’re 6 weeks late on pays and I havent seen any money since I started. I’m not sure if I should give my 2 weeks notice, wait for the store to close and then they pay me, give them a deadline to pay me which if not met I leave or if I should just stop showing up. For reference this is in Quebec which has strict labour laws. I’d appreciate other ideas or what legal action do you think I’d be able to take
Wanting a fair pay
Been with a company almost 10 years. New hire makes 2 more dollars an hour than i do. I make at least 50 percent more in sales than him per period. He has no kids no wife unlike me with 2 kids, putting my wife through school, ect.We are expected to get raises soon. How do i go about approaching my managers and discussing this pay with them? One guy has been here 5 more years than me and i make just as much sales as he does and he makes 7 dollars more than indo an hour. He has the biggest account in the company and if he didn't have that account id have him by at least $20,0000 more in sales per period. He also doesn't have a wife and his kids are grown and done moved out. I have a whole city to myself while everyone else…
Workplace sexism becoming infuriating
Really need to rant I (25f) work in an office setting with two other men, one is 26, and the other happens to be his father and I’m not sure of his age but he’s old enough to have a 26 year old son (mid to late 40s). When I first started working here, the first thing I noticed was the absolutely filthy shared bathroom in the office. It became apparent after a few days that no one had the intent to clean it and I honestly don’t know when it was last cleaned (if it ever was). I took it upon myself to clean it because I really could not bring myself to use that toilet in the state it was in. I had told the dad of the office that I wanted to clean the bathroom and he said something like “oh yeah you’re gonna have to look…
Today is a Civic Holiday
So where I live (Ontario, Canada) is a civic holiday today. That means it’s not a stat/mandatory holiday, like Christmas or Canada Day. What that means is federal government agencies are all closed, but everything else is basically up to the employer to decide if it’s a holiday for their company. I started at my workplace last September, so past the civic holiday. Every other job I’ve had in even somewhat related work has taken the civic holiday off since it’s inception. So I made an assumption (whoops). Well, my boss text me to ask if I was working today (I work remotely). Apparently, we do not get the civic holiday off. Honestly, it wouldn’t be a big deal, I’m not in trouble per say, but on Friday when I said “I’ll talk to you Tuesday, have a great long weekend!” probably would’ve been a good time for them to…

Loopholes in “right to work”
Companies don't want you to know this, but “right to work”/”employment at will” is not absolute. You are still protected from retaliatory firing, you are still protected from discriminatory firing, and they still need to cover their butts with a paper trail documenting reasonable cause to fire you. They like to say things like “we can fire you any time we like” and “you're replaceable” to scare you, but they actually can't just fire people willy nilly. They have to have a reason. The main difference is that you don't have a union to protect you. Check your employee handbook for references to a “probationary period”. If they say that, even if they follow it up with “this does not alter the at will nature of your employment” it does. Courts have found that if your employer has a probationary period, that means that once that period is over you…
