I see a lot of posts bashing capitalism, which is fine. But I'm just confused on why people are bashing capitalism, when the system we have is not a capitalist system. A coworker of mine recently brought up that she tried to buy an 18-pack of eggs at Walmart and it was over 5 dollars. And I started talking with her about inflation and the conversation turned to capitalism. My argument was that, in a free-market capitalist system, if eggs cost that much, I could throw some chickens in my backyard and start selling 18 eggs for $4.50. Someone else would do it and start charging $4. And the price would come down to something more reasonable. But now a days, there is so much regulation, that I'm not legally able to just throw some chickens in my yard and start selling eggs. The big corporations have essentially regulated the…
Month: August 2022
Let me know if this is the wrong sub to post in, I just figured you guys might have some advice. I work retail and currently I’m not in a position to switch jobs. But anyway over the last few months what has been a manageable pain that could be occasionally debilitating has become a frequently debilitating pain but I have been unable to get a diagnosis due to multiple reasons. My friends and loved ones have been telling me that I need to inform my employer because they keep scheduling me for more hours than I request and they need to know that I struggle to make it through these longer shifts. I’m normally pretty good about scheduling my day to accommodate enough energy for work as well as things like school, errands, and working out (to hopefully get myself healthier) but I’ve been regularly forced to stay late…
I work at a pizza restaurant inside of a mall food court. I was serving two women and asked if they wanted to make their meal a combo with a side of pasta and bread sticks. They just look at each other and say to me “No thanks if you couldn’t tell we’re fat enough as it is”. I just say ok and we just awkwardly stare at each other until I hand them their slices of pizza. My manager saw the interaction and took me to the back to explain to me that I should’ve told them that I don’t think they’re fat and told me to always laugh at a customers joke so as to not make them feel uncomfortable. He told me next time he doesn’t see it he’s writing me up. There have been times where I’ve had middle aged women tell me I’m handsome and…
Is FIRE an antiwork movement?
For those unfamiliar FIRE (financial independence, retire early) is a movement of saving/investing most od you wage so that you can live off that and retire before a typical retirement age. At the most surface level these two movements are both about not needing to work as much. However there is some inherent privilege in FIRE because you need to be able to live off far less than you make and that's not an option most working class people have
Quite quitting story on BBC news website
Just another way for greedy corporations to fuck poor people. “Oh you're broke and can't afford to pay your debt right now! Let's raise your car insurance to make sure you never can!” Fuck Capitalism.
There's nothing wrong with showing the abuses of corporations but supporting liberalism and right libertarianism is supporting the current status quo and the interests of the Bourgeoisie. The point of antiwork was to show the abuses of capitalism and to move away from capitalist ideas. How can you support the working class if you wish to maintain the current state? No matter how much you regulate the market, someone out there is going to be exploited. These people may appear as an ally, but they are not.
1st job was job factory but people after work wouldn't go near me because not one wash worked for get read of smell plus was a fish factory or bf situation, chose the bf and left after a week of working there 2nd got another job, got covid and then was ready to work and was put straight on call aka no accurate schedule, which ain't good at but schedules I am. So now on night shift times even though did only one night shift which was cut off early because of a line going down and got a call just before I was going to sleep, about a morning shift. Like you expect me to come in when I got told there would be a schedule, when there isn't one. So said no and now rethinking to find a scheduled job, I know I am such an idiot but…
