Be the change you wish to see in the market Pt.2?

I saw the post from not too long ago with the same title. So I figured I would contribute to the change in my own way. Background: City Job that paid 18.50/hr Submitted the application Did a 15 minute assessment once I submitted it. They then proceeded to desire that I create a 10 minute PowerPoint concerning a topic related to the work culture.

This may fall on deaf ears, but so long as I’m in the position to speak the truth on behalf of all job candidates getting hit up to discuss a new job, dammit, I’m gonna say it!

After refusing a raise, my boss offered to double my salary after submitting notice

I work in sales and have been with this company for 3 years. Had an amazing customer base and have never had a single complaint, I work hard and get shit done. Over 11 million in sales YTD, and they are only paying me $55,000 salary. (Yikes) I got a job offer with a competitor, and with salary, commission, and bonuses it works out to over 100k. I handed in my resignation, and he had the audacity to call the CEO where within 10 minutes they offered me a 70k base, with a 30k bonus. 1 month prior, I was told I wasn’t eligible for a raise and that he would “put in a good word for me come review” (April 2023) The best part? They were SHOCKED that I still refused. I said if you were paying me what I was worth from the start, we wouldn’t be having…

Today is the day I find out if I get fired.

I am a pretty good and reliable worker, I complain about my dislike of my job’s pacing with some of my coworkers or direct managers from time to time but they relate. My team lead has called me one of her “most reliable employees” In the last 4+ months of working at my job I have been absent only once, and have used pto/ppto for all other occurrences. I do as I’m told, how i am told, when I’m told to do it, and rarely fail tasks. In the last 7 days alone, I’ve technically worked enough by accidentally clocking off too late to get overtime for 32 minutes. But none of that is what matters. What matters is I just took 2 days off without using pto or ppto. I wanted to, but the system just wouldn’t let me. I have far more than enough hours to cover my…

how to report a business for shady practices Massachusetts

Massachusetts location. Here's the scenario going on. Recently my mother was fired from a transportation business that deals in taking people to appointments. She started roughly 3 weeks ago and I noticed some issues with the place. Her pay stubs were missing several hours and from what she told me they don't do hourly only the accumulated time spent on rides to appointments. So you get up at 5am and work till 3pm but the hours only equal to 6 hours based on rides. From what I investigated all of the riders are 1098 contractors in the books so they don't have any full time staff. What resources can I do to report em?

Dumb question, but would like some feedback.

I work at a [retail bakery position], I generally close and my schedule has me marked to finish my shift at 9:15 pm. Having everything done by 9:15 is rare, so it usually takes me until 9:30 or a little after to finish up. Depending on the manager that is also closing that night, they'll come over and briefly check it out before clearing me to go. Others will nitpick every single little thing and micromanage the hell out of me. An example would be them asking me to wipe out the crumb trey after I already dumped it (nothing else is getting out of it unless I pry my nails into the metal to get it out.) Then I leave at 10:30 on those nights and get home at about 11. This is only a part time job that I do for some pocket money while I internship elsewhere.…

Weir talk from CEO. Red flag?

I’m working my ass off trying to get a job and a small start up is about to give me an offer. But in the final round I met their CEO and a co-founder. They both spent half an hour to lecture me about how they fed their kids with sub 30k yearly income. And this job is in SF where living expenses are high as fuck. I was skeptical and asked them about the exact salary I’m getting, cuz the range they provided is literally 50k-250k. And then they refused to answer. Is this a red flag?

What is a non-hired position?

Found out recently that my job is not considered a part-time position or a contract position, but that it is considered a non-hired position. Is anyone familiar with this term? So far an internet search has not yielded anything concrete about what this means.
