did what was best for the organisation but get screwed in return by HR

I am working for a government organisation and every quarter there is flextime period ending date for my department. Meaning that any flextime over 20 hours will be lost. I am also outsourced partime for a project in a another department who has flextime period ending once a year. The problem is because of extremely workload of a project in my department I belong to and another project with tight deadlines I am outsourced to I got many flexhour this month and have over 60 hours that I haven't been able to take out because there has been no time for it unless the project I am outsourced too and the organisation would be hurt by my absent. I have tried to talk to HR to about that and to have them make an exception this time so that my hours gets transferred to next period so I could take…

I hate working in warehouses but they’re the only jobs that ever seem to hire me

Awful, depressing, non-air conditioned, dusty, dirty warehouses are all the jobs I can manage and I keep taking them out of desperation. I don’t know how to escape this. I’m planning on going back to school to hopefully get some skills that’ll free me from back breaking blue collar monotony but I’m scared to go back and waste my money learning something that I’m not passionate about. I don’t even know what I want but it’s not this. Not sure what to do. I feel trapped

Maintain an environment to foster continuous growth.

This is a mission statement for my employer. I find it confusing that for the company this means “make more $$ than last year”.. for the employee it means “personal growth” or get better at your job and encourage those around you to do so. However if the employee takes the stance of the employer wanting to make more money year over year. Well that’s a problem. 🤔

Being paid under minimum wage

Boss wants me to write my own JD for new role

Ok, so what do my friends here at antiwork think? TL;DR: wanted a title change to a senior role, boss agreed and wanted to discuss with me, then sat on it for a month and a half before coming back to me saying he wants me to craft a new JD for the role and submit to him in four days so he can make the announcement by Oct 1. /TL;DR Been in my current role for 6 years. I’m a sysadmin, and my boss is the CIO and my direct manager. There’s five of us on the team, all the same level with no internal team hierarchy. I’ve noticed that I take on a lot more responsibility in hunting down new tools, taking point on calls and requests we receive, and being available to the other teammates if they have questions. I’ve asked for a leadership role internal to…

Is it legal to take PTO from an employee due to car issues?

I work for a franchise, so apparently, owners can do whatever the hell they want. When I first accepted the job, I did so after negotiating 3 days of PTO, as they were offering none. I asked to use a half day on a Monday following a weekend of moving and was approved. As I was getting in my car to go to work, my battery completely died. I had to wait for a jump start and then once that happened, they recommend that immediately get my battery replaced since it was dead dead. I communicated with my employer and they knew exactly what was going on. A few days later they said they are changing my PTO from days to hours, since it seems like I am going to be going by the hour, and told me to sign off on the form for those extra hours I was…

What Exactly Do Managers Do

Serious question. Bear in mind, our department is small. He’s manager of 5 people ultimately, two more than when he originally started. The previous manager pulled his weight. We shared the duties, splitting them in an appropriate manner according to position. Previous left for a much better job, and this clown managed to stick his head up the ass of every single interviewer and just told them what they wanted to hear. He knows nothing, he just talks and talks and talks about how nothing is their fault (or his), and he’s going to fix things except he has zero follow through. The pandemic was the greatest smokescreen he could have hoped for. Sorry, went on a bit of a rant there. My actual question is, is it normal for managers to ask the lowest paid member of their team whether or not they should approve something at their level?…
