I’m sick of social media. All the shit I see here on the communist and anticapitalist subreddits are unfunny memes of queen latifah doing a funny dance and the caption is ‘when there is no more capitalism 🤣’ or ‘haha trailer park republicans’ like classism was somehow cool. I want to ORGANIZE. I want to do praxis. How do I do it in my day to day? Mutual aid and direction action I get. I’ve engaged. But more than that, on a great, not-liberal level. For example I’d like to organize my apartment and fight to change the shitty conditions and insane rent. I’d like to attack the root causes of problems with local people. What tactics could I use to change the conditions of my apartment if I got everyone in the building into a group chat? What can i be doing at a local level that is more?…
Month: September 2022
Though this is basically repeating the title, there is a “this is fake” (or its derivatives) in the comments for nearly every single post in this subreddit with more than 100 upvotes. Nearly every single post. You can check for yourself if you'd like. So it's a pretty good sign that when someone posts an image of a boss' notice of workers not being allowed to talk about their pay, or bosses stealing money, or workers going on strike, that if someone is saying “this is obviously fake” in the comments, they are lying. Mods, you can feel free to remove this post if you'd like. I just wanted to point this out for people who aren't totally sure about the antiwork movement and would be swayed by the shotgun spray of “this is fake” that's peppered this subreddit's comments via shills and trolls.
Goldman Sachs Working Conditions Survey
I got my undergrad in Economics, and then my MBA…I came out of a working class family, so the fact I even went to school was a win. In my small mind, I thought working on Wall Street or Goldman Sachs was the epitome of ‘making it’. This leaked employee survey shows how big of a bullet I dodged…it’s brutal. Note: I credit everything to joining the Army, it paid for all my undergrad and 2/3 of my MBA.
My company offered a retention bonus for X amount of money for X amount of years to existing employees. If we leave the job any time in X years we have to pay it in back in full. I believe at the same exact time they offered the same amount and duration as a sign on bonus for new hires, buttttt they have a sliding scale for paying back. If they stay a certain amount of time the amount drops and it keeps decreasing from there. I think this is insanely unfair to the existing employees, why wouldn’t we get the sliding scale? I just want advice on how to go about this because my contract says it can be amended if the company and I agree to it. But I know if I bring it up they are just going to think I’m going to quit, and will shut…
Hey there. I'm a student with a chronic illness and I'm looking for a job that I can do, even when my fatigue and neurological issues are really acting up. I'm only looking for 20-25 hours of work or so. All I need is something that pays 15+ an hour, isn't something I'm in danger of losing if I show up sleepy or not functioning well. I do want to work and be productive and I'm intelligent and I like to do a good job. I just deeply worry about my ability to perform high-level work given my struggle to stay awake. I live in Tallahassee so if there's anyone that lives in the area that might have a suggestion, please let me know. I don't want to have to kill myself and leave no time for my studies for some part-time job, so I really look forward to…
Got demoted for calling out
Just walked into work today and got pulled aside and told that I've been demoted for calling out yesterday. I called in yesterday and told my manager that I had a family emergency and they told me that I had to come in anyways, I told them I wouldn't come in and that to consider this as me calling in and hung up. Now today when I walked in I got news that I am no longer a checker and have been demoted to bagger. I've been a checker for just under a year and have only called in a few times but couldn't use PTO because I haven't been with the company for a full year yet (full year in 1 week). Kind of livid at the situation because other people in our store no call no show and have never been punished like this.
