Month: October 2022
I’m seeing a lot of posts about companies demanding phones are locked away for work or risk being fired if it’s used during work. Does this happen outside the US at the same scale? What if any profession do you think it’s fair to ban their use and or lock them away? And what do those companies do about Apple Watches etc? Do they demand you leave those behind too?
I am beginning to think there's no such thing as a workplace that understands work-life balance at even the smallest level. I was hoping that this direct-hire role that I was lucky enough to find and get in spring 2022 might have long-term potential for me, but I'm starting to see its major red flags, so I am not sure how long I'll wind up being here. It has me considering actually responding to the recruiters who have been reaching out with contract-to-hire job opportunities with real interest, when I really would prefer to have a direct-hire role with all the regular benefits. Our team isn't the largest, but there are 12 of us (counting our manager). We cover a wide swath of technology, so there is a lot of work, but you'd think we'd have enough people to cover for each other when one or more of us is…
Got called selfish by my own mother
As the titled says, my own mother called me entitled because I told her I didn't want to work for minimum wage in NYC and she told me I was an entitled selfish white bitch. So that's lovely. Minimum wage won't cover my bills, and I am in grad school so it's not like I can work 200 hours a week to cover everything. Gotta love that boomer mentality. Thank you for coming to my Ted talk
Thanks a lot…
is this legal ?
Sent home cuz of a Dress code violation
So I work at (insert big coffee shop), have for less than a month, and today I came into work and after about 45 minutes my shift lead came over and said that since my shirt was a violation she had to send me home. I even have a solid color grey shirt I could’ve worn instead. What I don’t understand is that I’ve seen other coworkers wear striped shirts and patterned shirts, but this one isn’t okay? I don’t understand. The code calls for subtle patterns, and I though this fit. This feels targeted or my shift’s on a power trip.
