I will be switching from being an independent contractor to fully self-employed in 2024. Right now, I don't have the greatest balance between my professional and personal selves, and I doubt that will change when I'm working for myself. But it's getting me thinking…what is work-life balance, what conditions are required for it, and how do you know when you've attained that sense of balance? In other words, this balance is at the core of this movement, but I don't think we're always clear about the specifics of what that means. Obviously the logistics of that balance will look different from household to household, but even a vague idea of what we're looking for is helpful.

I dont want to be the wonderkid
Apps for a job lol
Maybe this is something new to me but why do so many companies make people download a shit ton of apps before they start working Lmao
Say you want to start at a new company and you want everything to be set until you get your first paycheck for security. Do you not give your current company a 2 week notice then? If so, how do you go about it best?
Bullshit sales contests
I just got an email telling me about a contest they are promoting for landing big accounts. Gee, I haven’t really been trying to get these big accounts, but now with this contest I guess I will try. I’ve been doing this long enough to realize that landing big accounts is largely a matter of luck. For that matter, as long as you are putting in the hours and following the process, the whole fucking thing is luck. Sure – I project an air of competence and sincerity, because I do sell a superior service. But whether any particular fish bites or not is complete luck. A fucking contest is not going to change that. In fact, being able to not be nervous about whether it’s going to happen is an advantage. I don’t look desperate because I’m not desperate. I know it’s mostly luck. I don’t mind pizza parties,…
I just bought a soda in a very large east coat airport. I picked it from the case, took it to the self serve, and paid with a card. Who did I talk to, or interact with, that would get a tip? And I bet the people that work there never see a tip in their meager paychecks! Sad…
I’m a college student and I work at a small local business that’s pretty popular where I am. There’s been some changes at work while we lost one of our staff members(L) after they were treated poorly by my boss(B). I knew with them leaving and one of the other managers (N) moving to a new position in the business that I wanted to see if I could help in any way. I spoke to B and was told I would potentially take one of the spots that N was filling in for after L had left. Recently it was announced that the position I was expected to take because N and I are the most qualified for it was taken by one of our coworkers (Z) who is completely unqualified and has extremely limited availability from other personal obligations. Z will admit to not being qualified and the only…
I'm a receptionist at a construction company. It's a small business, so job descriptions are pretty lax. Our technicians use a time tracking app to clock in. For some reason, I am in charge of keeping track of employee hours and making sure they are clocking in accurately and into the right job site (the app has our customers on them, so when they go to Bob's house, they clock into Bob, then switch to Nancy when they go to Nancy's, for example). If they aren't, I am the admin, and have the power to edit/delete/add them. Lately, the technicians have been SO BAD about clocking in (they'll be clocked into warehouse, even though they've gone to 4 job sites). I have told the owners over and over and nothing has changed. Today, one of the owners came up to me and said that I should set myself THREE alarms,…
