Been working this “part time” job for the better part of 2 years overnights. It's “part time” even though I average 5-6 days a week although never breaking 40 hours with no benefits or sick days, we've have all of our management except for the head replaced in the last 2 months and my department halved and even had my supervisor left without the position being filled for 3 months. we were a team of 7 and now were down to 4 but we have the same work load with no telling when there will be a new hire, cant even call out because there isnt anyone to come in because no one wants a 6 day work week At this point I'm the one to have been in my department the longest and still management does not effectively communicate with me or my team at all, like when they…

What really happened in 2008?
Was 18 then, living in Canada. Somehow even back then I got the sense things were never going to be the same and low and behold…. The recession in the U.S was brutal. They told us it was ''not too bad'' in Canada and perhaps it wasn't but coincidentally the labor standard, pay, workers rights began to curiously decline in the following years. The trend has been felt in the U.S to this day and in many other countries. What exactly happened? and why do I get a sense whatever it did totally changed the employment standard? Other things to take note After the 2000's rent has exploded in cost Poverty is much more prevalent. We have blatant visible poverty like people living in tents that never was a thing before 2010. Working conditions are abysmal. Where are human resources? workplace deaths and injuries are way up.

About three weeks ago, I got covid and missed work for three days. I asked my GM to put in 18 hours of paid sick leave, and he told me he would. Fast forward to pay day, I’m missing the sick hours. It took me 24 hours to get a hold of GM (on vacation of course). The second image on shows his increasing irritability toward me. Was I unprofessional in this encounter? I wouldn’t have caused such a fuss except I am the fifth employee he’s done this to in the last few months. What should I do moving forward?
What a prize!
8% increase for the rest. While I am happy for them, this feels an awful lot like quiet firing.
Housing as a basic right
Home values have went up so far that even single people making $25 an hour wouldn’t qualify for most homes. And the mindset scares me when people respond to these statements with “go to trade school, go to coding boot camp, just get a better job” We aren’t going to have 300 million coders and trades people walking around… We will always have front line people at the grocery stores, in warehouses, janitors, garbage men, all folks who play a vital role in keeping society functioning yet many of these people have to live with other adults in some fashion to survive. Have people in the upper middle class and upper class gotten that out of touch with reality on what it takes to survive? And telling folks they need to cut back on “luxuries” such as internet and nextflix…like that would make a difference anyway What it takes to…
