Got hired with a fat signing bonus, HR is taking 6+ weeks to complete bg check and hiring process. Pretty sure I’m being fucked with, what are my options?

I got hired in a Sr. Mgmt/Director/Leadership position. I'm 15 years deep into a fairly successful tech career. Crushed the interview, negotiated my salary up 20% from the initial offer and snagged myself a sweet 25% signing bonus as well, to be paid in full on my second paycheck, which is a little unheard of in my exp. During the process, the hiring company was bought out by another conglomerate, and I had to do all my paperwork thru the new companys portal. Fast forward 6 weeks. I have filled out my information in the portal over 7 times, I have spent 3 days schlepping to drug screenings only to have them be cancelled. They continuously send important emails to the wrong address I have provided tax info, employer info, personal and professional references, and educational bg including my fucking GED. I have exchanged countless emails and I've been rudely…

Anyone with experience in Department of Labor Conferences?

If there's a better subreddit for this, let me know. I'm posting this here since it does deal with wage theft. Long story short, I was let go from my job in May, and after doing the research it looks like I'm legally owed money they didn't pay for my final check. I filed a claim with my DOL (CA) and didn't think it went anywhere. Well, a month ago I got a letter about having a scheduled phone conference with the DOL over the matter. In it, the letter listed my claims and an estimate of what I would be owed, as well as a pamphlet on my rights as a CA employee. I filled out the contact information they needed, and now that conference is coming up. I've been gathering evidence for my claim as needed – email communication where said company explicitly said they would not pay…

Petition to increase minimum wage

The federal minimum wage has been $7.80 since 2009. At the same time, the cost of living has gone up 9.1% in the last 40 years. Everything is more expensive. Companies are raising prices as they want with no regard for how it will affect the buyers. You will spend $87 more on groceries now than in 2019. Many people live in poverty, and even those who are not still struggle to make ends meet. Inflation is high 1.81% higher than last year. Inflation is up but wages are still the same. I want to make awareness to how wages haven't increased but inflation has gone up. Increasing the minimum wage would make life easier and would combat inflation.  Raising the minimum wage means minimum wage workers have more money to expend which means more money ripples throughout the economy as minimum wage employees are able to spend more thus…

yooo michigan labor laws

i saw the “YOU GOT IT?!?” post and researched michigans labor laws. Typically my schedule gets posted 1-2 days before. Ex; our schedules start on Friday and the schedules get posted Wednesday or Thursday for that upcoming week. Majority of days for the rest of the year are black out days, meaning we can’t request off. I have another job and an event came up last week for this Friday. I need to attend and can almost guarantee that I will have to work. Wondering if I should bring this up with my manager. Michigan is an at-will state and I cannot afford to lose this job. I’ve called off 2x in the last month – once because of car issues and once because I had a terrible fever. Anyway, what would you do? ETA: meant to add that Michigan has a 14 day requirement for schedules posted

What is the etymology of the word ‘salt’ as a union tactic?

Union salts are workers who enter a workplace with the intention of organizing a union. But why do we call this delightful practice “salting?”
