My Thanksgiving/Christmas “bonus”

First post here. I work at a local grocery store in the butcher shop/bbq section. I’ve been working there for about 6 months now. Because I am going to college at the moment I can only work part time but I still manage 21 hours a week (3 days a week 7 hour shifts) plus a bit of overtime here and there when I can manage it. As someone who has sacrificed their time that could’ve been put towards studying, hanging with friends, or just relaxing, I was very much looking forward to the bonus I was going to be getting. I get paid $12 an hour so I was very much looking forward to some extra cash. When I arrived at work today I was called into my managers office and was given my bonus. Sweet! It was $20 to the store. Not sweet. As someone who deals with…

This month I learned at work:

Please clock out before having a tornado. It’s the right thing to do. (My supervisor told a coworker she needed to clock out when co-worker said “tornado siren just went off, gotta go now” and my supervisor immediately responded “clock out first”. Who does that?!!! 7 tornadoes touched down in her area during that storm.) Any mention of a “mandatory town hall meeting where we can discuss our grievances and we need to be VERY VOCAL” during, was actually just a fluff piece for the company. Telling us how great they are. How big they are. Where not a single work level employee even spoke.

NY State – is it illegal for companies to lie about pay in a job listing?

On Monday I went to a job interview from an Indeed listing. The listing had a bulleted list of compensations – first thing on the list being “35k salaried” and directly under that, “opportunities for commission and bonus”. Then when I showed up at the interview, the manager started going over the job expectations and everything. I was privately thinking that it didn't sound as involved as I'd expected, until I heard her let slip that pay started at $15 hourly. I stopped her and asked what happened to the $35k salary in the listing – I could work all 52 weeks in the year, never take a day off, and at $15 an hour I'm barely hitting $30k. The interviewer clarified that the $35k figure is what is “possible with commission and bonus”. Naturally, I laughed at her and walked out. I reported the ad to Indeed, but it…

If I steal money from my employer, I go to jail. If my employer steals money from me, I have to get it investigated and, if approved, I get a letter that gives me the right to sue but only for 90 days.

The system is so stacked against the common person. My former employer was making me work overtime but not paying me overtime. When I complained about it, they fired me. So I contact the Department of Labor to have them investigate it. I didn't think anything would come of it since I didn't have much evidence only a timeline, a few nasty emails, but no smoking gun. Well, my dumbass boss who can't keep her mouth shut, straight up admitted to the investigators that she fired me for wanting to sue the company. I've posted about this story a few times on this sub. I haven't won my retaliation case yet. The company didn't want to mediate so I'm in the process of looking for a lawyer who's willing to take the case. They're surprisingly hard to find. That's all. I just wanted to bitch a little bit about it.…

home health agency slashed all of the field staff’s salary and told us to apply for unemployment

so this happened right around the beginning of covid. i worked as a home care nurse for this hellhole company for two and a half years, it was a salaried position when i was hired. most of our patient base at the time was from elective surgeries, which were stopped when the pandemic first hit, so for a few weeks we weren't busy. then on a monday out of nowhere, everybody gets a call from our department director telling us that they can't “afford” to pay our salaries anymore and we would be getting paid on a patient-by-patient basis (there were hardly ANY patients so we would basically be getting paid dog shit). then we were told that MAYBE we could apply for unemployment. also fun fact, the new contract also required us to see even more patients than we were before and that if we were low on our…
