Bailing out

So I've been working for a small company for year now, and in the last month things have hit the fan. Our most competent and senior team coworkers have all left in the space of about 3 weeks of each other leaving me as the senior team member for our role. Another coworker is looking like management is forcing her out which is supremely unfair given how dedicated and hardworking she is. When the coworker who trained me put in her notice I decided that I'd leave when the new staff are trained, and after my household has moved The two thin threads keeping me here is that I've been told I'll be transitioning off the phone and be purely admin but our boss talks a lot of shit without following through so I'm dubious and that I'll struggle to find another place with the flexibility this job gives me.…

Anyone else getting screwed out of holiday pay?

My workplace decided that because Christmas and New Years are on a Sunday and most employees are off anyway. So the holiday will be celebrated on the following Monday. I work weekends so this screws me out of nearly 24 hours of overtime.

Cut my notice in half? I’ll cut my two week notice in half

Boss found out I'm looking for a new job. Told me he will need to use my shifts to train new employees. So, I am now cut from 16 hours a week to 8. I physcially cannot work 8 hours a week. I have gas to pay, and car insurance. Even living with family, it isn't enough. Well, unfortunately, I don't have a second job. But I do have a second interview tomorrow. I am very confident about this opportunity. In fact, the manager implied the second interview is for filling out onboarding paperwork. However, because I am petty, and my boss is a jerk and cut my hours in half, instead of submitting a two-week notice, I am cutting it in half and putting in a one week notice. I am currently waiting for his response.

Is work supposed to be interesting?

I have been working for almost 6 years now in the field of civil engineering, making decent money ($100k+bonus). I don't know if I like what I do, but I have the most knowledge in this field since I haven't tried something completely different. Sometimes I really get into it since the nature of the problem I am trying to fix is interesting. But usually it's the same routine design. In the company we have had a gazillion turn overs in the past 2-3 years… Not sure where everyone is going lol .. but due to these turnovers, their projects are usually distributed amongst current employees… As a result I end up getting a lot of their projects which are annoying and frankly frustrating because they were not left in good shape, budget and technical wise.. so today my supervisor (who I have a great relationship with) asked how am…

Punished for overtime

I work for a company that I will not say the name of for reasons. When k got hired I was told you can get all the overtime I wanted. But after a few weeks of working there they got rid of it, that’s not the bad part. About 3 weeks ago we had some people call out, so I came in to help out. I got 46 hours that week. The week after we had a meeting saying we need to stop working on our days off. Now ever since then I’ve only gotten 24 hours a week. Oh and to make things worse. The boss keeps complaining that no one works when they need help. Well no s@(t you said we couldn’t.

the 15$/h boomer model is self destructive

If you had a small grocery/store do you seriously believe paying 15$/h to some kid is gonna make them give great customer to all the clients? Boomers are too lazy to work their own store. They think they gonna hire a slave-boy and just drive the CAYENNE all day and sip cocktails. And then they wonder why they have no customers and their business is falling apart, because the 15$/h kid isnt going to care how he treats customers. At the first annoyance the kid is going to roll his eyes at them, cuss and tell them to fuck off. And once you have driven off the 50 local customers with bad manners…you have permanently lost them. You just lost 60% of your monthly income…because you let some underpaid kid tell them “are you like..going to buy anything or?” you cant expect some kid being paid 15$/h to give a…

One Week Notice – told I was unprofessional

Gave a one week notice to a company I had worked for for three months because I am relocating my family for my husbands job. I worked 15-20 hours a week and was contracted at a pretty low wage doing no brainer work. The response from the manager was that I was “unprofessional” and that if I knew I was moving they would’ve liked a heads up and that I had left them hanging. She also would’ve appreciated if I could’ve helped them find a replacement. It was all a very negative experience and in my opinion unnecessary commentary from my manager as I’m moving; and the job requires very little skill and provided very little pay. That being said ironically the company ALSO just last week laid off an employee who had been there for four years and gave her one week notice. I mentioned this as she was…

BNSF does more than not giving us sick days. Give us back our rights!!!

I sent a lengthy resignation letter to the ceo of BNSF, Terminal manager, regional HR specialist, and terminal admin. Never in my life have I been sucked clean of my energy, this place is beyond horrendous and it’s a bittersweet experience to witness first hand the reason behind the our crippling supply chain. Stolen breaks, short lunches, retaliation, and the list goes on but you really need to be their boots on the ground to really feel the soul crushing experience that all of the workers and I felt. I was only there for a month, they’ve been openly miserable for years. Holy ****

Working at Gamestop SUCKS

Okay so I am new to reddit and I don't know where to post something like this. This is for anyone that is currently considering or has ever considered working for Gamestop. I want to get this information out to as many people as I can so they can stop taking advantage of their employees. To begin just don't work at Gamestop… So I just changed jobs. I worked at Gamestop (for the sake of utmost anonymity) for a few years. I started out as a seasonal employee and worked my way up to Store Manager my time there and worked at 3 different stores. First of all, to them, the almighty dollar is more important than you (like many other companies). I can express this is several examples. For one, they essentially blame you for their failure as a company. Every so often you are given “goals” or…

So Very Tired

Guys, I'm so very tired of this. I have a good paying job but my manager can be unbearable. To give some background, I work at a welding supply store, I was hired on as the shipping and receiving clerk. Our location runs leans on employees so anytime someone leaves we have to pick up the sack. In August, our counterperson left and I got his position. Only problem is, i was still doing my job until we got a replacement. I just got off the phone with him and to sum up what he told me I am ruining the warehouse, I lack experience and I am teaching the new hire (just started 2 weeks ago) bad habits. He's been a dick about other stuff and honestly I just want to quit, But this is a really good job and I just can't. I don't know what to do.…
