All the Asians have a good work ethic

We're hiring for a position on my team. We've narrowed it down to 2 candidates, one of whom happens to be of Asian descent. During the candidate review, one of my co-workers says, “I like [Asian candidate]. All the Asians I've worked with just have such a good work ethic.” *awkward silence* Gotta love that positive racism in the workplace. It really cancels out the negative racism. /s

Work cut down my hours and now I’m ditching for a better paying job.

So I have been having upper respiratory issues due to us doing hardcore reno's in our house, I told my current job (put in notice literally 3 days ago that I'm leaving for my old job) this and they said “we're going to switch your shift to X-X instead of X-X times to give you more time health wise in the morning for the last month of you being here”. So now my hours are being cut down and to 5.5 hours vs my 8 hour shift. To begin with they weren't going to let me do my summer job where I'm paid $30 an hour. Now I'm going to take the week off, to do the set up for this summer job and they can find someone to cover my now cut down shifts for the week so I can make actually decent money.

A parable in the style of Calvino’s Invisible Cities

There's a strange country where everyone walks from morning to night. They don't even know where they're going, why they're walking so much. “If you don't walk – you don't eat,” the saying goes. (You must also be walking to be worthy of the attention of healers – the apparent contradiction going noticed but unacknowledged.) A citizen's greatest hope is to live long enough to earn the right to be carried on the backs of the procession. However – because child rearing is difficult in a society that demands so much walking – some have noticed a disturbing trend. Every year there are more people old or broken from their walk and fewer to carry them. (Not to be worried for their leaders have a plan; a great human pyramid must be constructed so that many carry a few who carry still fewer, and so on. In this way the…

People with a degree but that do a less qualified job, what do you do?

I graduated as software engineer and worked in that field for several years. At the beginning the hours were long but the salary was really good and after work I felt really free and comfortable, I loved the job. But since 2021 my salary increase were consistently lower than inflaction, I got an insane amount of mandatory extra hours and a sequence of absolutely crazy managers who didn't understand where their authority end. I changed severe different megacorps and everyone was a copy of the other, it starts good and soon after they lower the quality. I searched for other jobs in the same field but simply the salaries were lower than what I did when I was an undergraduate or the companies asked for extremely long hours for just a normal salary. I quit and stated working in retail. The salary is low as I expected, instead I was…

If its makes you sick, wind off

This is a thing that happened to my auntie, lets call her Ana. Happened in Brazil, Ana applied to a job near home, a automotive workshop managed by an family, Ana was supposed to be an assistant but ended up managing the place, solving every sort of problem (yet receiving an assistant salary) but the owners were damned persons, they would fight, the husband would beat the wife in the upstairs office, their son would treat people like shit, including my auntie. And the thing just kept getting bigger and complex, the family did humiliate my auntie for several years, the worst was the son. And she didnt quit, she stayed there during 15 years, being emotionally abused, humiliated, having her dignity throwed at the trash, treated like the dog turd flies (Brazilian expression, may not work in english). She quits after an severe burnout, Ana has developed Panic, Anxiety,…

I was let go from my job and I think it’s because my wife is Jewish.

I was recently laid off from my procurement job of five years. It seemed off to me at the time but the company cut me a severance and told me they wouldn’t dispute my unemployment claim. I think this was in an effort to keep me quiet. A couple months prior to me being cut loose one of the confounders of the company was recommending to some coworkers of mine the internet documentary series “Europa – The Last Battle” which is pretty infamously neo nazi propaganda. After discussing it with my wife we decided the thing to do was to look the other way to maintain employment. Then probably a week or two before I was let go the topic of Israel came up in open conversation with the cofounder who was spreading the nazi propaganda. I let it be known that I was married to a Jewish woman to…
