To make a very long story short, our manager participates in tip pool. My state law says its illegal even if she is on the floor because she is considered an employer and has power over us. One employee brought it up and didn't split her in so she threatened to fire him, but he quit because she didn't give him a break one day. We brought it up to higher ups. District manager said none of her other managers take tips but she's not sure about the law. Then my manager said “technically tips are a privilege so we don't have to let you guys take tips. I only take them when I'm on the floor” (not true. She will sit in her office for an hour and still split herself in.) I'm afraid if I bring it up to someone, she will take away tips for us. But…
If you do not like your job, if your boss is a tool, or if you are not paid fairly, or if you want secure hours then you can look for another job and quit essentially without notice. Whatever your contract says, if it stipulates that you are zero hour contract, quit when you find something that is better and then “work only your contracted hours” during your notice period.
Work place wonders why they lose people
(sorry if this is messy) Been working at this steel factory for about a year now. Ever since I started they’ve always asked us for retention solutions and reasons why people keep quitting. During my time there I was harassed and bullied by multiple people, with nothing being done besides false promises of trying to work on it. One girl in particular bullying me was doing it to EVERY female in the factory, to the point that others have quit. One occurrence they ignored was a grown man telling me (21f) that I was gonna ‘fuck around and find out’ (in front of my team lead and nothing was done!!). For months they ignore peoples problems, lie about the hours we are working, and tell us there’s ‘room for improvement’ when we work our asses off 48+ hours a week. Two times this week a co-worker and I were talked…
This is half rant, but also important for you to know. Do not trust Glassdoor. They hide negative reviews, and when the company asks them, delete negative reviews. They'll delete your review without as much as an email to let you know, so you don't fight it. Beyond corrupt. Story time: A few years ago I worked at a startup. This company had some of the most intelligent, experienced and positive people I've ever met. It also had the most narcissistic CEO I've ever met. Man breastfed off daddy's money and thought he was infallible. When I joined he boasted about the fact that the board asked him to step down…so he fired them because they didn't know what they were talking about. During my time there I was part of a cultural council, so other than hearing grumbles around the office I saw the literal data on how things…
Getting sick at work
Kinda just a vent but why is it that 90% of the jobs I’ve had don’t give a fuck when I get sick on the job. I have a disability so there is supposed to be reasonable accommodations right? Never not once have I had a job give me any accommodations what so ever because of my health issues. (I’ve always made my health issues known btw so it’s not like I’m just expecting special attention or treatment without telling them why) I’ve quit many jobs because of this and I’m seriously considering quitting my current job because of it. I’m tired of it.
I am a student teacher, and I have to do my “Practical” at a school for 2 consecutive months. I had to take unpaid leave. My “Practical” includes working from 7:45 am to 6 pm Mon-Fri. I have to commute to/from work myself, do all the “dirty” work, am being talked down to by older teachers, sub for absent teachers… Man, this really sucks. I absolutely love students, and it's my passion, but doing unpaid work and being treated like trash just isn't it. I got yelled on for sitting on a couch in the office instead of walking around in the mornings and checking on students. Fyi, this was at 7:30, not even “working hours”. Student teachers should be paid. At least something. This is pure slavery. It feels unreal, like am I the only one experiencing this? Why isn't this talked about???
