I'll start. My last job was at a trucking company in the maintenance department. They were a small-ish company. They only had about 75 trucks and one base which was in my home town, but they were well known for getting things to places and getting them there quickly because they ran teams only (except maybe like 5 or so trucks), and the trucks never stopped moving basically which is why you never saw one in a truck stop for longer than a few hours. I started off at pretty good pay (salaried), and a damn good schedule (4 on, 4 off), I had coworkers that I enjoyed working with, my boss and boss' boss were good people, and the owner was generally an alright guy even though he could be a bit abrasive at times. I've worked in hydraulic repair, fast food, retail, warehouses, and I can say that…
Month: April 2023
Heya guys, I don't know who will even be interested in reading this, but I took the time to make a reply to a post and the comments got locked. It felt like a powerful and person statement, and I'd love for people to read it and find validation in their feelings and experiences too. That's what I've felt over the years reading other people's stories. COMMENT: As someone growing up in this time, this is spot on. I have given up on life. The first time I saw through the veil was when I went to college, seeing how imperfect the classes were and how lazy some professors felt. Getting accused of smoking weed back then when I honest to God didn't, but got penalized with my roommate anyway. There were tons of problems at this time, including student housing and my early college credits not being accepted as…
to add some context to the title, there is a guy in my department at my job who consistently makes sexual jokes towards other men in my department. he made one towards me the other night and I obviously felt very uncomfortable. I was willing to let it slide and chalk it up to a bad attempt at flirting until he did it someone else not even two hours later. I made it known to my boss and to HR, and drafted a letter of resignation. My bosses begged me to come back and promised they would get to the bottom of it. When I explained to them what happened, they dismissed it and said “the guy that did this to you is known for having a dark and fucked up sense of humor. Obviously we don’t want anyone making anyone else feel uncomfortable, but workplace banter is something that…
Waited half an hour in the call for someone to come, no one showed. Lost half an hour of work at my full time job waiting for this guy. Emailed him 3 times, still nothing. Why is it so hard for interviewers just to send an email and say they won't make it? Do they think we just have infinite time to set aside for them because we're so desperate for work? Saddest part is I was really excited about this as it's a field I've been trying to get into for years and I FINALLY got an interview. Guess not.
Fire Chief is a choosing begger
Hi antiwork, I'm writing this to kind of vent frustration but also shed some light on how even volunteer first responders still get shit on by those in charge. TL;DR – Fire Chief begs for new fire fighters but seems to have an issue hiring women. So to get things started I wanted to point out a few facts that some of you might not know. First, in the United States, outside of major cities, a majority of fire departments are either paid on call or volunteer. Also a majority of these departments are very understaffed, mostly due to the fact that being a firefighter isn't for everyone and it is so hard to juggle your day job, family life and being on call 24/7 to answer the call to help someone in the community. So there is a shortage in most areas and some places are so understaffed that…
What is this subreddit about??
I (14 m) am wondering if the title of this subreddit is misleading or what I think it means. What I get from the name of this group is that you are all anti doing work (by work I mean a Job) I can understand that the 9-5 and office life for every one. But if that is the true meaning of the subreddit, that this group are against that sort of work/job the name is very misleading. And if this group is against all work I believe you are misguided twats (British slang for idiots) I believe work/a job is very important for every one who can mentally and physically perform and as a person with 2 jobs (not full time) I believe they have provided me with a lot including financial gain and experience. I would just like some clarification and maybe some examples on how to avoid…
Gift Giving and Social Transformation
I work for one of those places that pretends to be different, cooler, nicer, more fair. It is of course complete bullshit. Now I’m looking down the barrel of major burnout and they won’t own their part in it at all. My advice is basically just to care less. I don’t regret any of my choices, and I would’nt necessarily tell my younger self to not care so much, but I guess now is as good a time as any to accept the fact that capitalism is cruelty, and try to move on giving less of a shit
Am I or am I not being overutillized?
Honestly dont know if I am being over/underutilised. Senior production manager in a construction manufacturing company been there for 9 years now. Between 80 – 100 employees at any given time depending on production load. I managed ALL of them up until Jan when I got a second manager to help. We divided the facility in half but I still do the more senior tasks myself. Managing includes quality control, time keeping, disciplinary issues and HR, health and safety, transporting staff, maintenance of all types of machinery as well as manual labout involved in the priduction process. We are doing very well in terms of workload IE extremely busy. We run 24 hours in our bread and butter departments which means I am on call all the time, we frequently work 6 sometimes 7 days a week and whatever annual leave I sacrifice in order to keep things going is…
Aka when your new incoming workforce isn't immediately pussywhipped and willing to serve you like peons. So you complain about how they need to be trained more to fit in your corporate mlm.
