Within the past few months, higher management has: • Forced everyone into WFO, no matter the circumstances (including overseas employees who have to upend their lives if they want to keep their jobs). • Laid off about 10% of the staff. • Put almost half of the remaining workforce on PIPs. • Implemented so many new practices/changes to SOPs that people's workloads have tripled in size. • 'Forced' promotions onto people i.e given them way more responsibilities with no added pay. I'm currently on a week-long vacation with my family and been having the time of my life until I realised what I'd be going home to. Being forced to commute to the office has brought my health to new lows (thanks to public transport and the ongoing existence of COVID). I haven't seen my therapist in forever because I can't tear myself away from my work long enough to…

Stupid shit I heard in the office.
I share an office with our HR director and she's on a conference call with our corporate HR director, and the things I heard were absolutely brain dead. 1: you have to “control the interview” even if that means interrupting the prospective employee. 2: if a prospective employee wants a particular schedule and isn't flexible then we don't want them.
To raid an influencers house because he was sent/bought Magic The Gathering cards two weeks before they were released. The same Pinkerton that had a law created in 1893 that they could never work for the Federal Government because they’re basically union busting mercenaries. A toy company did this to a citizen of this country. WTF is actually happening in this country?!?!
Quit my job yesterday because a problem I suggested solutions to for over a year became make or break. I turned in my resignation, and then while cleaning out my office was told it was ripped up in case I change my mind, but I should remember that we are all easily replaceable. What I really understood was “hey, you’re not really valuable around here but not having a warm body around is going to mean I can’t take my 3 week vacation next month.”
How to fix the labor shortage: pay people enough to live, or force all the people who can't work back to work?
I was fired for seemingly no reason
I started a new job two weeks ago, everything seemed to be going great, I got along great with my co workers, I liked my bosses, I enjoyed what I was doing and I was excited to be there. The only issue I can think of was when my trainer told me to clock out after the store was closed so we could continue our closing routine, at that point I was told we were expected to work off the clock and we wouldn’t receive any pay after 10:00PM I told him to be careful with that as it’s highly illegal and the company could face huge fines if caught. I was genuinely saying it from a place of concern, hoping it would be received positively and possibly spark a change in the right direction (naivety, I know) I did however ignore some red flags that I pushed to the…
In the United States, deindustrialization has been a major factor contributing to the crisis of the American middle class. The manufacturing industry was a major source of jobs and income for the American middle class. During the mid-twentieth century, the United States was a dominant force in manufacturing, producing a wide range of goods, from automobiles to electronics. However, since the 1970s, the manufacturing industry has been in decline due to various factors, such as globalization, automation, and outsourcing. As a result, many jobs have been lost, and the wages of those who remain employed in the sector have stagnated. The loss of manufacturing jobs has had a ripple effect on the American middle class. Many workers who were previously employed in manufacturing have had to find employment in other sectors that do not pay as well, such as retail or service industries. This has led to a decline in…
Coworkers have no desire to unionize
I work at a certain fast food/coffee shop chain who’s workers, to my knowledge, have not established any sort of union. This has led to us being taken advantage of and losing many little perks and benefits of working there such as all of the drinks that we make being free for us as well as getting raises for dealing with the increasing influx of people going there. I’ve brought up the idea of unionizing to my coworkers, but none of them show any interest in establishing one because of “union dues” and other trivial reasons. Why would some workers go against their own interests to save money on dues that go toward getting them raises and benefits?
Okay I’m on mobile sorry if I fuck up. And I hope this is the right sub to ask? I’ve never posted before. This employer I have right now sucks for a lot of reasons but recently I got in trouble for letting another employee know that I’m in training for a manager position. My GM said all this crap about how telling them undermines their respect for me and how now they’d never respect me as a manager? As a manager, my pay would have increased to $18-$20/hr plus tips (smaller cut of tips than regular crewmembers though). As punishment for telling my coworker, my pay was cut from $14/hr plus tips to $12/hr plus tips. This is the most money I have ever made! On top of the pay cut, my hours were cut to TEN HOURS a week! Was my manager just pulling a bait-and-switch on me…
