Unpleased with my job. Salary decreased the week after I got an increase.

Title says it all. I've been viewing this sub for what feels like years now, and I read the stories of everyone being shit on and I add my little 2 cents here and there but I guess now it's my turn to get fucked over by my job. This isn't even the worst thing they've done to me, this is just the final nail in the coffin. 3 years ago, My lead tech retired. There was only me and him, at the time. My bosses knew I was good for the job, my lead tech knew I was good for the job. I was a tech 1 at the time (lowest possible) and they chose to hire outside of the company and didn't even look at my application or consider it. They hired some guy for $24/h while I was making $16.50. I trained this guy over the years…

Manager took away part of lunch because i didn’t do my job “right”

My manager took my lunch time away to go and fix an area me and my co worker didn’t clean it properly. I wouldn’t happily have gone back and fixed my mistake but- taking away 20 minutes of my hour long lunch is to much right? Is it against the law? I think it is but what should I do..?

Quote From A Jim Butcher Book

Jobs are a part of life. Maybe you've heard of the concept? See, what happens is that you suffer through doing annoying and humiliating things until you get paid not enough money. Like those Japanese game shows, only without all the glory -Harry Dresden Saw this in the book Blood Rites and related too hard to it.

Asked to do something unethical by my supervisor

I just started as a store manager with a company that I've noticed is really shitty toward employees. My supervisor called me aside yesterday and told me that in the next few weeks, I needed to pressure my assistant to quit “so we don't have to pay him unemployment.” Naturally I'm not going to do that. He and I do the exact same job, the only difference is I make schedules and order stock. That's it. They've already made me shave his hours down and make him leave early the next day if he gets any overtime, something I'm also against, but what would you guys do in this situation?

starting new businesses

Looking around examples exist of companies paying people far above average, treating employees like people and providing opportunities for them to move up along with strong benefit packages. The companies that do this have been profiting, provide great value to the customer and IMO will outlast/beat out the slavedrivers. First example is chick fil a. I still go to other fast food places, but only ones I have experience with and know that location will make my food right, not forget shit and the employees will be friendly/generally give a shit. This is all very dependent on the franchisee though and the consistency across locations is incredibly poor. With chick fil a, I know that any location I go to will provide great service and food. On top of that, I like to patronize chick fil a because I know the workers arent being ruthlessly exploited. Sheetz (a western PA…

Shout out to Gen Z employees

Because this is an anti-work page, I will attempt to stay on topic in regards to the workplace environment, but these compliments carry over into the experiences I've had working with Gen Z's and is a testament to their character. I just want to say that based on my personal experience I have not met very many if at all Gen Z's that fit the stereotype of not wanting to work or being lazy or feral (Yes as I've heard) In my industry we employ a lot of students and the work I do is not easy. We work 10 hour days and perform strenuous exercise in labor roles on a daily basis. These kids show up every day, sometimes for years and put in an honest days work all the while maintaining a positive attitude. They are hopeful for their futures and are thinking critically about financial decisions or…

Interviewing the employer

I’ve been looking and applying to different companies, mainly in a different line of work than what I’m currently in. I’m in management and I am just sick of my current company with being overworked and not able to complete my actual responsibilities plus many other issues that are too many to list that have gone on for years. I do however get paid well and have great benefits. I haven’t considered staying in the same industry due to my benefits and salary not being matched or better by a different company. Well a competitor has reached out to me but before I agree for an interview, I’m going to ask several questions through email about guaranteed salary, benefits, hours, etc. I have a busy schedule and I don’t want to waist my time interviewing for a company that is underpaying with less benefits. I have the upper hand due…

I won’t forgive my manager

Manager was horrible to me for the last 2 months and now is extra pleasant and communicative. Just as I started to search for a new job. Started to doubt my decision, but then I realized sometimes I have to be ruthless and not forgive because if it happened once it will happen again. Don't want to go in details, just want to share my thoughts. Don't let them treat you bad and then be nice when they need you. Speak up and respect your self.

How to cause an existential crisis in corporate people.

I was at a corporate event last night with managers and c-suite people and there was this odd older guy that kept asking people what they did outside of work. I did not hear one good answer, including my own. We have nothing outside of work. I am just an empty corporate robot. Tonight, I am ordering Chinese in and watching a marvel film with my 6 year old. Thanks odd older dude.
