I honestly just need to rant about this as it's pissed me off a lot. At the beginning of April I dislocated my knee and was placed in a full leg cast that heavily restricted my mobility, the doctors then recommended 5 weeks off of work for recovery as the chance to redislocate my knee is very high now that I've done it once. I then informed my boss and all was well. Roughly 2 weeks later I get a call informing me I've been terminated as they can't have someone off work for multiple weeks at a time no matter the circumstances. Sadly I had the position via a staffing agency which in the UK means I have very little to no right as an employee so I'm unable to dispute it or have any sort of legal rights.

I was super nervous because I just started this role but upon getting some of the documentation it was pretty iffy. Finally got the courage to tell the desk lady 'hey just like… some of your clauses in here are illegal' (regarding not enough paid sick leave etc etc) watch her do a quick google, including a gov page I was just on that mentions employers can face significant jail time for breaching it. 'hmmmm yeah whoopsie, total accident, must be an old contract' (the laws on this havent changed in over 50 years, the company is 10 years old.) She got everything fixed up fine but yikes they really be trying to pull this shit. My last company did similar which is why I was on the lookout.

There are very very few outliers that really made it from nothing. These are paraded around like a carrot infront of the masses and its nonsense. If you are not allready born above average in terms of wealth theres a 99% chance that you will never get wealthy. You can be a genius – excell at hs – Uni – your job. You will still never catch up to daddys boy that got a small loan of 500 000 Dollars to start his business. Whos grandfather owned 20 000 acres of Land and could catch his grandson if he failed. Who had all the right connections set up and had just to fall forward to be sucessfull. People claiming all this can be achieved by working super hard are delusional. And gashlighting people that had it hard for not being economically sucessfull is even worse.

Even the people who try to write about that or make films about it, they don’t get it right. They call it “9 to 5.” It’s never 9 to 5, there’s no free lunch break at those places, in fact, at many of them in order to keep your job you don’t take lunch. Then there’s overtime and the books never seem to get the overtime right and if you complain about that, there’s another sucker to take your place. You know my old saying, “Slavery was never abolished, it was only extended to include all the colors.” And what hurts is the steadily diminishing humanity of those fighting to hold jobs they don’t want but fear the alternative worse.…

Today is my first day at a legit bad job. I can’t even get out of bed I’m so drained from these jobs. Over the years I’ve been sexually harassed. had a violent coworker stalk me and try to hit me. Coworkers stealing out of my purse. Denied time off to get necessary surgery. This doesn’t even touch all the psychological and mental issues I have accumulated over my working years from all the gaslighting and lying. There has to be a better way.

As title says, been trying to book a week off because I’m exhausted and need a mental break, before I have a mental break. Been trying to book since September and still get refused. I was originally told to book 2 weeks in advance but still never granted. Tried to book 2 months in advance and still cannot due to “not enough in the budget”. What’s the point in granting me holidays I cannot use, or do they want me to plan my entire year for them in advance. They recently also let nearly the entire work force off for Eid due to it being a religious holiday, fair enough as most of the staff is Muslim, but why couldn’t I get Christmas off in the same respect? Or any time off in the same respect. We were so understaffed for Eid but clearly they are scared to touch Islamic…

“Your total comes to $43.50” “Ok so 6 minimum wage hours, great here you go, thanks!” If it ever catches on it highlights inequality, unfairness and if it helps raise the minimum wage, prices will come down!!
